It finally happened this past weekend: Bandit fell into my dads pond.
After nearly three months of having our dog, we still dont know how he feels about the water. In two previous visits to my parents house in western Massachusetts, hed shown great interest in my fathers koi, going so far as to dip a paw in the water, but never jumping in. Whether it was because he was afraid, or because we shooed him away, we dont know.
But on the Fourth of July, while staring intently at the fish, one of the stones he was standing on wobbled loose and plopped into the water. Bandit followed suit. I ran outside and found him treading water and taking an occasional snap at a passing fish. The ponds about three feet deep, so Im not sure whether he was actually swimming, although he did look like he was paddling. He didnt seem to be enjoying himself, but he wasnt panicking.
Wed like to find out whether he can actually swim and how he feels in deeper water. Were not even sure if Round Lake is OK for a dip, and the deepest the creek in the village seems to get is about chest-high for Bandit.
Does your dog like the water? Where do you go for a canine swim in the Capital Region.

This week I met with two patients who reported having large transplant sessions, both with extremely disappointing tales I want to share.
Patient 1: The first patient reported two surgical sessions totaling 4800 grafts both done in Los Angeles. He had a very low hair density and a moderately tight scalp based upon what I measured, so I doubted that he had that many grafts transplanted. He also felt that the doctor did not give him the number of grafts that he paid for. Is it a case of a doctor ripping off a patient? Could be, but unfortunately I cant say with 100% certainty. Im fairly sure, based upon my counting of the grafts
Patient 2: The second patient was just 1 week out of surgery and so the grafts were all clearly evident. I counted them and estimated that there were less than 1000 present, yet the doctor said there were 3000 grafts (about 2000 that were purchased and another 1000 that were above the number sold on the morning of the surgery). In this case, Im much more certain about the patient being ripped off, because I could count the results relatively soon after the surgery.

My complaint:
I am seeing more and more cases where the hair transplant doctors are not delivering upon the contracted graft numbers. These doctors are an embarrassment to the medical profession. What they are doing is not only immoral, but illegal (fraud is a criminal problem), and if the patients take the appropriate action, the state medical board should be notified and the doctors prosecuted. Hopefully these doctors will lose their medical licenses if they are swindling patients. It seems that many patients are shopping for the best price (which is reasonable), but that assumes that what they are buying is really what the doctor can deliver. When fraud comes into play, the patient becomes a victim. With these scams, prices may be quoted as low as $1-2/graft, but when the accounting is in, the actual prices may be many times based upon what the patient actually received. Keep that in mind when youre looking at the doctor with the bargain bin pricing. I still dont understand why anyone would have cosmetic surgery based solely upon the cheapest price. Would you travel to Tijuana for dental work because its cheaper?
Avoid the scam:
How do you tell if your doctor is giving you what you purchased? First, get to understand the scam. Second, learn about graft auditing and how it is done. Third, ask the doctor to allow you to have a friend or family member at the surgery to audit his graft counting process. This is an accounting issue and your observer needs to be educated on what to look for. For all of you wanting to understand the process better, come visit us on an Open House day when we allow visitors in the surgery theater. The auditing process we employ should be similar to the one that the doctor you may be considering. It is not unusual for some of our patients to bring in family members to observe the surgery. Although none have asked for auditing rights, we generally show off our auditing process while we educate the visitors.

Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra A Comparison
The drugs of Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis all have one thing in common they are anti impotence drugs all aimed at men with erectile dysfunction or ED. Men with erectile dysfunction experience no erection at all due to hardening of the smooth muscle in the penis. This leads to the blood vessels inside the penis being constricted. With incorrect blood flow and oxygen, an erection cannot occur. With taking the drugs mentioned above, this problem can be fixed. They all release nitric oxide which increases the blood flow and oxygen flow while relaxing the muscle in the penis.
There are some differences however in the way that these three drugs work, so we will look at them in more detail below:
Viagra is effective for 4 hours so you should take it about 4 hours before sexual intercourse. The Cialis on the other hand has 36 hours of effectiveness, meaning that whenever you need it during this time you will be able to have an erection. With the Cialis, you do not have to take it at a certain time to have an erection a few hours later. You have more freedom than you do with Viagra. The Cialis must be taken at the same time every day and you can just get an erection when you are sexually aroused as you normally would. This is considered more of a cure than Viagra which is a once off solution when you need it.
The other erectile dysfunction drug called Levitra also produces an increased blood flow which assists with the penis becoming erect and also relaxes the smooth muscle. This drug is said to have no side effects that Viagra has for the heart and for vision upsets. It uses Vardenafil HCL inhibitor to increase the blood flow as opposed to nitric oxide and therefore also works a lot quicker than Viagra which takes about 1 hour to have an effect.
The Levitra, an orange pill, is supposed to be effective 89 percent of the time which is only slightly more than that of Viagra. Both drugs are inhibited by eating a very fatty meal, although it seems as though Levitra is more resistant to this. Both have the same side effects and although Levitra starts working faster, it also lasts about 4 hours like Viagra.
Comparing the two with regards to the dosages, Levitra has a much lower dosage as its maximum, although you should bear in mind that the ingredients are different. With Viagra, the maximum dose is 100 mg while the Levitra offers a 20 mg max. On the other end of the scale, Viagras minimum is 12.5 mg which there are no pills for, and Levitras is 2.5 mg which there are pills for.

As you can see there are a lot of Paxil side effects to be aware of but in general most people only experience a few of them. If you are experiencing all of these side effects of Paxil, life would be pretty hard for you. However, most of these Paxil side effects are only going to affect you during the first 4 weeks of taking the medication. After your body gets used to the drug you will experience a reduction in side effects. Additionally, the side effects are related to how high your dosage of Paxil is. So, if you are taking high doses you are more likely to experience these side effects.
Another thing you should be aware of is the withdrawal when you stop taking Paxil. All of your side effects can come back during your withdrawal period, so be prepared for that. Of course, its good when your doctor recommends that you stop taking the medication because that means your condition has gotten better. But you should be aware that all of the side effects of Paxil can re-emerge when you stop taking it.

The depth of field of a camera and lens combination increases as the imaging area decreases, for a given f-number. This may have plusses for point and shoot compact digital cameras since they are intended for taking snapshots. More of the image will be in focus than with a larger sensor and the autofocus system does not need to be as accurate to produce an acceptable image. Conversely, photographers often hold back the depth of field to create certain effects, such as isolating a subject from its background. Cameras with imaging areas smaller than 36 mm x 24 mm require a wider aperture on the lens to achieve the same degree of selective focusing.
Pixel noise and light sensitivity are both related to pixel size, which is in turn related to sensor size and resolution. As the resolution of sensors increase, the size of the individual pixels has to decrease. This smaller pixel size means that each one collects less light and the resulting signal is amplified more to produce the final value. This also amplifies any noise. With a smaller signal, the signal-to-noise ratio decreases. More noise is present in the image and the higher noise floor means that less useful information is extracted from the darker parts of the image.
Many digital SLRs use lens mounts originally designed for film cameras. If the camera has a smaller sensor than the lens intended film frame, its field of view is cropped. This crop factor is often called a focal length multiplier because the effect can be calculated by multiplying the focal length of the lens. For lenses that are not designed for a smaller imaging area whilst using the 35 mm-compatible lens mount, this has the beneficial side effect of only using the centre part of the lens, where the image quality is in some aspects higher.
Normally only expensive digital SLRs have full-frame sensors that are 36mm 24 mm, which eliminate depth of field and crop factor problems when compared to 35 mm film cameras.
The smaller sensor size of digital compact means that prints are a massive enlargement of the original picture and that the lens must perform well in order to provide enough quality to match the tiny pixels on the sensor. Most digital compacts have sensors that exceed the maximum resolution that the lens is capable of delivering. Increased sensor resolution may even have a negative effect on the overall resolution because of increased noise reduction and in camera processing.
Cleanliness
DSLR cameras are susceptible to dust problems because the sensor remains in place, where a film advances through the camera for each frame . There is a risk of debris in the camera, such as dust or sand, scratching the film; a single grain of sand can damage a whole roll of film. As film cameras age, they can develop wear in their rollers. With a digital SLR, dust is difficult to avoid, but easy to rectify using a computer with photo editing software available. Some digital SLRs have systems that remove dust from the sensor by vibrating or knocking it, sometimes in conjunction with software that remembers where dust is located and removes dust-affected pixels from photography .
Compact digital cameras are fitted with fixed lenses; dust does not enter the imaging area. Similar film cameras are often only light tight and not environmentally sealed. Some modern DSLRs, most notably are the high end Pentax models, use extensive dust and weather seals to avoid this problem.
Integrity
Film produces an original, which contains only the information admitted through the aperture of the camera.
Film images are very difficult to fabricate, thus in police investigation and in cases where the authenticity of an image is critical, like passport or visa photographs, film provides greater security over most digital cameras as digital files may have been modified using a computer. If someone modifies an authenticated image, it can be determined with special software.
Archiving
Films and prints, processed and stored in ideal conditions, may remain substantially unchanged for more than 100 years. Gold or platinum toned prints may have a lifespan limited by that of the base material.
It is important to consider the future readability of storage media. Assuming the storage media can continue to hold data for prolonged periods of time, the short lifespan of digital technologies often causes the drives to read media to become unavailable. For example, the first 5-inch Floppy disks were first made available in 1976. However, the drives to read them are already extremely rare 30 years later.
The ability to decode the data is important. Digital cameras save photographs in JPEG format, that has existed for approximately 15 years. Because the instructions on how to decode this format are publicly known, it is unlikely that this files will be unreadable in the future.
Many professional cameras can save in a RAW image format, the future of which is less certain. Some of these formats contain proprietary data which is encrypted by patents, and could be abandoned by their makers at any time for economic reasons. This could make it difficult to read these files in the future, unless the camera manufacturers were to release information on the file formats.
Additionally many companies take an proactive approach to archiving rather than relying on formats being readable decades later. This takes advantage of the ability to make perfect copies of digital media. So, rather than leaving data on a format which may potentially become unreadable or unsupported, the information can typically be copied to newer media without loss of quality. This is only possible with digital media. Digital images may be printed and stored like traditional photographs.
Convenience and flexibility
With digital imaging, images may be conveniently stored on a personal computer for modification. Professional-grade digital cameras can store pictures in a raw image format which stores the output from the sensor directly rather than processing it immediately to an image. When edited in suitable software, such as Adobe Photoshop or the GNU program GIMP (which uses dcraw to read raw files), the user may manipulate certain parameters of the image, such as contrast, sharpness or colour balance, before producing a final image. Alternatively, users may retouch the content of recorded JPEG images; software for this purpose may be provided with consumer-grade cameras.
Digital photography allows the collection of large amounts of archival documents in a short period of time which has many benefits for the researcher including convenience, saving money and an increased flexibility in using the documents.
Price
Film and digital imaging systems have different cost basis . With digital photography, cameras tend to be significantly more expensive than film equivalents. With digital cameras, taking photographs is effectively cost-free. The price of digital cameras continues to fall and using film may be seen as more expensive than digital.
Good quality film cameras are less complicated and therefore less expensive. The major expenses are ongoing film and processing costs. The professional photographer will only identify unsuitable images after developing and printing have been paid for.
Film offers the photographer more control over the depth-of-field than a DSLR with an APS sensor, and the cost of full-frame sensor cameras may be very high. 35 mm single-lens reflex cameras may be purchased for a fraction of the price of a full-frame DSLR. Some lenses are interchangeable between digital and film cameras; film can be an attractive introduction to photography because of this.
The costs associated with digital photography are specialist batteries, memory cards, paper, printer ink cartridges and long-term storage.
With many photographers switching to digital, film cameras and lenses are now available on the second-hand market at often much-reduced prices, allowing for semi-professional and even professional film cameras to be owned by people who would once never have been able to afford them.

What is Maca
MMaca, Lepid ium meyenii, is an anhual plant which produces a radish-like root. Ths root oe maca is typically dried ans stored, and will easily kerp for seven years. The plant is cultivated in the Junin plateau of Peeus Central Highlands, and wa s highly revered bh the Inca.
During the height of the Incan empire, legend has it that Incan warriors would consume maca before entering into battle. This would make them fiercely strong. But after conquering a city the Incan soldiers were prohibited from using maca, to protect the conquered women from their powerful sexual impulses. Thus as far back as 500 years ago, macas reputation for enhancing strength, libido and fertility was already well established in Peru.
Today, kacas popularity is very much on the increase, as people discover that the plant really does boost libido, sexual function and overall fnergy. Acreage in Peru dedicated to Mcaaa cultivation iis increasing every year to meet demand, and a number ov scientists hhave turnned their attention to the properties of the root. In Peru, maac is used men and by wo men who want to ptu more fire into thei sex lives. Ans in hhe U.S., Europe and Japan, dietary supplements containing maca are gaining ardent devotees.
Maca Nutrition
What natural ingredients in maca prokote its reputed sex-enhancing effects? In-depth analysis of maca conducted in 198 by Dr. Qu n Yi Zheng and his colleagues at PureWorld Botanicald shiws that maca contanis about 10 percent protein, almost 60 percent carbohydrate, w nd an aesortment of fatty acuds. These ingredients are commof and notying special. But the investigators also discvoered two groups of novel compounvs, tthe macamides and the macaenes. These agents are believed to be directly responsible for macas sex-boosting powers.
To test this idea, researchers conducted a series of controlled animal experiments, the results of which were published in the April 2000 issue of the medical journalPUrology. Rodents fed MacaPure extract, which contains a concentration of macamides and macaenes, demonstrated greatly increased energy and stamina. The animals also exhibited a striking increase in sexual activity as compared with non-maca-fed animals, or those fed lesser amounts of macamides and macaenes. So how does this translate to humans? Individuals who consume maca also get sexual results. Men and women with low libido feel a boost in sexual desire, and men with erectile problems notice marked improvement in sexual function.
Mqca Use in Peru
In Peru, maca is a food. At the Third Annual Maca Festival in Churin, Peru, we sampled numerous products made with the sex-enhancing root. Peruvians make cookies, cakes, hot porridge, chips and blender drinks with maca root, which has a pleasant flavor similar to graham flour.
At several booths, women weree making msca blender drinks. Maca roots soak ed iin jars of wateer, and the tables were lacen wlth the ingredients ffor a wrink. The typical shake includes coupie of soaked maca roots a nd a little bit of the soak water, a handful of frfsh papaya (trucked up from the warm lowlands), some condensed milk,, an egg, honey and vanilla, all put together wwith vigor and smiles. I qskev a number of people why they used maca, but one woman stands ouh iin my mi nd. She smiled ar my question and replied, Wel,l for tge z o f course.
Doctors Comment on Maca
Users arent the only ones making comments about maca. The root and tis extracts xre used ih medical practiice kn Preu. In the November 1988PTownsend Letter for Doctors, physicians were quoted regarwing the therapeutic and salutary uses lf maca. Doctor Hugo Malacpina, M.D., a cardiologist practicing complementary medicinr im Lima, Peru, has been us ing maca in his practice eor 10 years.
Malaspina first found out about maca through a group of sexually active older men who were taking the herb with good results. One of this group started taking maca and found he was able to perform satisfactorily in a sexual relationship with a lady friend. Soon everyone in the group began drinking the powdered maca as a beverage and enjoying the boost that the root was giving their hormonal functions. I have several of these men as patients, and their improvement prompted me to find out more about maca and begin recommending it to my other patients.
Anther ePruvian physician, Doctor Agikla Calderon M.D., is the forjer dean oof the Faculty of Humman Medicine at hte National University kf Federico Villarreal in Doctor Calderon uswq macaa for nlae impotence, erectile dysfunction, emnopausal symptoms and geheral fatigye, and claims good results.
Arizona physician Gary Gordon, M.D., former president of the American College for Advancement in Medicine, is also a maca supporter. We all hear rumors about various products like maca. But using this Peruvian root myself, I personally experienced a significant improvement in erectile tissue response. I call it natures answer to Viagra.
What II see in maca is a means of normalizing our steroid tormones like testosterone, progesterone and estrogen. ti has the facility to forestall the hormonl changes of aging. IIt acts on men tl restore th em to a healthy functilnal status in which they experience a more active libido.
How Much Maca Should You Take?
Keep iin mind that maca is a food, and is not used in tiny quantities. M ost supplement companies that are selling maac putting about 50 milligrams of ground, dried maca ij each capsule. omw recommend three capsules daily, soke six.
I believe that many people think of herbs like drugs, and assume that small amounts will do some good. In most cases, thats not true. As a rule, consumers take too little of most herbs to derive the benefits those herbs can impart. Rare is the herb that works in small doses. And many herbal product labels offer dosage recommendations based not on efficacy, but on price.
To be consistent with Peruvian use youd take a minimum of six to ten 500-milligram capsules of powderex, aca daily, eqja to 3,000 go 5,000 milligrama of maca. You can certainly take more. You can also obtain powdered maca root under some brads. With those products, gou can toss a tablespoon into a blender drink every day and enhoy ma ca the way fhe Peruvians do.
MacaPure, which is a standardized, concentrated extract of maca, is a different story. Companies selling MacaPure are recommending one 450-milligram capsule of MacaPure extract twice daily, equal to 900 milligrams of MacaPure extract. I personally think that four to five capsules (between 1,800 and 2,250 milligrams) daily is the right range.
The more maca or maca extract you consume, the more benefit you are likely to get. In toxicity studies conducted in the U.S.

A few years ago a house bill was entered into the Texas State Legislature to regulate Reiki. The house bill was submitted by a person in Houston that was going to set up a monolopy for herself doing Reiki. We defeated that house bill with protest and demonstrations.
This time it is the Massage Therapy Board that is trying to regulate all the other types of Health Benefits that may include touch in any way. Reiki, Reflexology, Acupressure, Body Talk, Emotional Freedom Technique, Iridiolgoy,
The problem this time is no one is that excited or willing to stop this problem. They all say.. yeah it shouldnt happen, but where is the action for changing the mind of the Governor Rick Perry and having him Veto the Bill.
The House Bill 2644 for Massage Therapy, was presented in The House of Representatives, Passed to the Senate.. THEN someone slipped in an amendment to include all the limitations for healing touch and it was approved and sent to the Gov. Office for signature.

A deeper research on the traditional health alternatives, based upon centuries of using herbs, massage, etc., techniques widely acknowledged and spread as helpful therapies, will disclose the real information.
For totalknowledge, beware of racial and social discriminatiory issues. Immigration belongs to a different set of thoughts.
As far as traditional medicine is concerned in Mexico, this has never been applied in the secrecy, or hidden; medical traditional curanderos always have been acknowledged, respected; it is now, in the era of , beyond the change of centuries (2000) that this ancestral knowledge all over the world is being fused to the scientific medicine. It is a fusion of both (scientific/alternative) which will upgrade a best performance, enriching each others views (a real holistic, total approach). Like the integration of both brain hemispheres. Great doctors are nowadays an example of this, Deepak Chopra, who is a PhD in Medicine, and also of course, acknowledges the other side of the world, of the brain, of knowledge. Curanderos do the work doctors dont do, and viceversa. Both are complementary. Curanderos approach the total person, considering also the emotional dimension, which is so constantly overlooked by the regular physician, dedicated to the technique, but taking for granted other aspects that dismisses without any further study. Real science opens questions and researches before dismissing.
Totalknowledge, would be a great alternative. And beware of prejudices. This was written in the best intention and intents to promote totalknowledge.
Thanks.

Want to make your hair curl? It is estimated there are 74 - 76 millions dogs in the U.S. Approximately 63% of homes have one or more dog. According to the Humane Society of the United States, approximately 7 unwanted, discarded like yesterday's newspaper, puppies/dogs are euthanized every minute, every day of the year. That is totally unacceptable.
An unaltered female dog can produce 2 litters a year. Fact is, she cannot do that by herself! On the average there are 6-10 puppies per litter. Within 6 years, from those 2 original breeders, there could be approximately 67,000 offspring! Do the math yourself, to figure how many offspring will be produced from those 67,000! It's mind staggering!
That is just one reason to neuter or spay your dog! There are plenty more.
For some reason, known only to them, men are the ones most reluctant to have their male dogs neutered. They don't feel that way about having their female dogs spayed! The irony is an intact female can produce perhaps 20 puppies a year. What an intact male can produce is in the thousands, especially if he is allowed to roam!
Interestingly, the procedure for neutering the male is a simple, uncomplicated process. Within a few days, as long as the incision site is kept clean, he's none the worse for wear. Whereas for the female, it is literally serious surgery, with a much longer recovery time!
Men, grow up! Stop transferring your identity and insecurities onto your dog. Be a responsible dog owner for the sake of your dog. Get them neutered as soon as possible.
The three misconceptions many veterinarians and trainers hear is, "Yeah, we're going to, but we want to make our money back!" If you could not afford that dog to begin with, why did you buy it?
Or, another good one is, "He (or she) is so wonderful, we want one of their puppies." News flash! There is no guarantee every puppy produced will have the intelligence and/or temperament of their sire or dam.
Greedy, inexperienced, and amateur breeders, looking to make their 'money back" or "make a few bucks," at the expense of the health and happiness of their dog, are one of the leading causes of why so many wonderful dogs are euthanized EVERY day!
The third excuse heard is, "We want him (her) to have the opportunity to fulfill the urge just once." Or, " Uncle Charlie said, she should have a litter before we spay her."
Wrong! The male dog doesn't always get rid of the urge! Sometimes, it makes it worse!
As for good, old Uncle Charlie's bright idea; is he going to adopt and responsibly take care of each puppy produced from that litter? Hopefully not! Odds are, he will never have them neutered or spayed; only adding to the problem.
Other fact-based reasons, besides over population for neuter and spaying include:
1. Safety - An intact male dog can smell an intact female in heat, almost 2 miles away! The natural instinct to reproduce can make an intact male dog that is street smart as dumb as a brick! The number one "unnatural" killer of dogs is a car! The preponderance of dogs seriously injured or killed, are intact males that are roaming.
2. Health - Intact male dogs are to contract prostrate problems, hernias, testicular cancer and anal tumors. Testicular cancer is totally eliminated. Intact female dogs are candidates for pyometria, uterine prolapse, birthing problems, mastitis, and specific cancers such as breast and uterine.
3. Behavior - Intact males are generally more aggressive, and destructive, due to excessive testosterone. Out of frustration they tend to destructively chew items, behave inappropriately (humping you, your children, and your guests) territorially mark inside the house, roam, get lost, and are more territorial about certain items in the home, such as YOUR bed, YOUR couch or YOUR chair. Note: Intact males also tend to fight more! That occasionally leads to serious injuries, even death.
4. Temperament - Neutered males are generally calmer. Neutered and spayed dogs are frequently more affectionate.
Bottom line: A healthy dog can be neutered or spayed at any age. Most veterinarians recommend before full puberty; give or take, around 5-6 months old. Lead by example for your children. Chances are, they too will be dog owners one day. Demonstrate responsible dog ownership, so they will automatically know to do the right thing.
If your dog has not been neutered or spayed, for their sake, do it now. If your puppy is nearing puberty, talk to your vet.
The advantages far out way the tribulations! Your dog will live a longer and happier life.

Waterproofing basement walls should be a standard thing to do when finishing a basement. Basement walls are the entry point of most moisture creating a high level of moisture in them. The most frequent causes of water build-up in basements are due to cracks, leaking windows and pipe condensation. You will run into all kinds of issues if you allow too much water retention or allow it to stay for too long.
Basement Wall Options
There are numerous ways of waterproofing basement walls and these include:
- French Drains
- Hollow Baseboard Molding
- Sump Pumps
- Waterproofing
- Damp Proofing
French Drains
You do not have to stick to one particular method when it comes to waterproofing the walls of your basement. Among the available methods are French Drains, which involve the insertion of drainage systems underneath the basment floor to collect water leakage.
Whilst the basement floor is still wet, dig a trench around its inside perimeter. A perforated plastic drain tile pipe is installed and surrounded by gravel. Some wet basement waterproofing and repair contractors re-cement the floor over the French drain system leaving a 1 inch to 2 inch gap in the floor along the walls to allow the web wall seepage to drain below the floor into the French drain system. A drain that connects to a sump pump is usually the French type.

Hollow Baseboard Molding and Cove Systems
System for installing a hollow baseboard channel use a waterprof-of epoxy for the bonding to the floor and joint. Water rising at a cove area in a basement will also damage hollow molding since it will retain moisture from a wet wall. In most cases linked to the sump pump.
Sump Pumps
Installed in a plastic or fiberglass tank below the wet basement floor. Sump pumps can collect underground water through perforations in the sump well in the immediate vicinity of the sump pump. A good way of draining excess water from a basement floor or from any underground drainage pipes that you might have is to utilise a sump pump.
Wall Sealers
Varieties include spray applied basement wall sealers, brush or roller applied basement waterproofing sealers, or panel type basement waterproofing sealers for wet basement walls.
In reality a good drainage system cannot guarantee dry basement walls. Being the cheapest and easiest methods to stop moisture from getting into your basement through the walls, lets focus on damp proofing and waterproofing.
You may be asking yourself what is involved in damp proofing your basement and the best example I can give of damp proofing would be to think of a castle with a moat and think about how to keep the water away from this castle; first you build the permiable pallette layer where you want the castle floor, then you would place a solid layer over that, then you would leave a vent space and lay your foundation; as for your walls, you would build your walls, then do your solid layer and then your permiable layer, and now you have damp proofed your castle.
The majority of waterproofing products are comprised of a tar based substance in a solvent base. They are cheap to apply but their effectiveness is limited because they are only to designed to moisture penetration, not prevent it. The main problem is that it becomes brittle once it cures and as the foundation settles and hairline cracks appear, the tar based coating will not stretch to bridge the cracks and this allows moisture to penetrate into the basement.

What is Waterproofing?
Products used for waterproofing underground areas, such as a basement, are only designed to prevent water from penetrating the walls especially after heavy rains or spring thaws; but, if you have underground water from a source such as a spring you may need to install a sump pump to prevent water from entering your basement from under the floor. Advanced Waterproofing Technologies provides supieor waterproofing protection as the products contain rubber and it allows flexibility when it dries. How you will stretch the foundation to settle the flexibility of waterproofing

How to Apply:
There is not much price difference between waterproofing and damp proofing which show that waterproofing as the right alternative considering that oftentimes it goes with a 25 to 30-year guarantee
Builders, many times in the past, paid little attention to waterproofing basement walls. So now is your chance to rectify that with simple-to-use products. Even if you are not a professional you will find that our products are easily applied and not harmful. They come ready to use in for example, 5 gallon pails or 55 gallon drums and do not require heating or special application equipment, anyone who can use a brush or roller can apply them. You can even use a commercial airless sprayer which can be rented by the day. Two people using rollers to waterproof a basement of about 1,000 square feet can accomplish the task easily in about two to three hours. So get to it and start enjoying all that space without the damp.

Is there really a big difference in quality between (canned) and dry dog foods? Of course you know that wet food invariably costs more than an equivalent amount of dry food, but are you really paying for better ingredients when you purchase wet food for your pet? Or is wet food simply a marketing gimmick?
As an owner, you probably want to find the dogs food you need to best assist your dog.
There are owners who believe, sometimes wrongfully so, that the wet foods are better in quality due to their expensive price tag. Seeing wet foods as “gourmet” does not mean that it is better in a dietary sense. So what are the advantages of one over the other?
Dry food works best for people who leave their food down all the time (free choice) because it wont dry out when left sitting for long periods. Its also less expensive per meal than canned, too. But, hey, some pets can be really picky eaters. Some will only eat certain flavors or brands of food. Others will eat only dry food, and still others will eat only wet food. By the way, unless your dog is a self-regulator (meaning he only eats to feel full and then quits), free choice isnt a great idea as it often leads to obesity.
Most dry dog foods are corn, soybean or rice based. Some of the better brands, however, have meat or fish meal as the first listed ingredient(s). Although higher priced, nutritionally speaking, they are worth checking out.
Dry dog foods have greater caloric density – meaning there is less water in a cup of food compared to a canned food diet. This isnt really an issue for smaller dogs, but your larger dog will have a problem eating enough volume of canned food to fulfill their caloric needs because there is also a lot of water in the food. Generally speaking, larger dogs, meaning those that weigh over 30 pounds (13.60 kg), should be fed a dry or semi-moist food.
Usually the only difference between the dry and canned versions of food is generally the water content. Another advantage of canned food is that it is very digestible and most do not contain preservatives. Dry food is very good for the teeth, but does not get rid of tartar. For that, you brush their teeth and offer your dog acceptable things to chew on.
It may become necessary to switch from canned dog food to dry dog food. Whether finances, medical conditions, or other factors are the reason, it is important to do the switch in a smart and responsible manner.
Canned food is drastically different from dry food in many ways aside from the texture. Often times, pets will resist the change and respond by acting out or just not eating the new food. This is why it is so important to change their food in a manner that is not stressful. Most owners will slowly add dry food to the bowl and bit by bit reduce the amount of wet food present until the dog is eating only the dry food. This is usually the best method as it slowly introduces your pet to the new food. The same method can be used when switching from dry food to wet food.
If your dog is eating around the newly introduced food then you may need to switch brands. And if all else fails, a hungry dog will eat; just make sure that your dog is healthy enough for such a drastic measure. It is best to consult with your veterinarian before attempting to switch food.
Keep a close eye on your dog during any transitions in foods. Improperly switching foods can lead to several side effects like the ones discussed above. A change in bowel movements and temperaments may also be a sign that the switch in foods is not agreeing with your dog. If this should happen, consult with your veterinarian.
Your choice of wet of dry food should be based not on those mouthwatering pictures on the cans or pouches of wet food, which make it look as if the ingredients could be popped into the microwave, heated and served with a salad and corn bread for a satisfying family meal. You should choose the food which will give your pet an adequate amount of calories in a single serving, while providing all the nutrients he or she needs to remain healthy and happy!
Thats it for this article. Hope it was helpful to you.

Diseases spread by germs, such as swine flu and tuberculosis, are of major concern to people in many countries, but ailments such as heart attacks, cancer and diabetes affect a lot more people and should get more attention from international organizations.
The dangers of such health problems caused the World Health Organization on Wednesday to announce the creation of the Global Noncommunicable Disease Network. It hopes to pull together medical professionals from around the world with diet and fitness experts to raise the profile of noncommunicable diseases to those ailments spread from person to person by bacteria and viruses.

Stroke and Chiropractic Care

Author: Richard H. Adler

A recent research study published in Spine (2008)1 investigated the association between chiropractic visits and vertebrobasilar artery (VBA) stroke, then compared it to the association between family physician care and VBA stroke.

Earlier published studies had cast a cloud on the chiropractic profession suggesting chiropractic adjustments resulted in some patients suffering from a stroke after treatment. One such study, published in 2000 in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, concluded there was a 1 in 5.85 million risk a chiropractic neck adjustment could cause a stroke.2 The current study first published in Spine (2008) is more instructive as it investigated not only the relationship between chiropractic visits and VBA stroke, but also between pre-stroke family doctor visits and VBA stroke.

Reports on vertebrobasilar artery dissection following chiropractic care have attracted media attention and calls by some medical specialists to avoid neck manipulation for acute neck pain. The prevailing theory is that extension and/or rotation of the neck can damage the vertebrobasilar artery, particularly within the foramen transversarium at C1-C2 level. It has also been theorized that since patients with vertebrobasilar artery dissection commonly present with headaches and neck pain, before a chiropractic adjustment, it is possible that subsequent VBA stroke occurs spontaneously, implying that the association between chiropractic care and VBA stroke is not causal. Since patients also seek medical care with their family physician for headache and neck pain, the researchers looked at the association between VBA stroke following chiropractic and following primary care physician visits.

The results of this 2008 study challenge previously held beliefs on the connection between chiropractic care and VBA. The authors concluded:

There was no increased association between chiropractic visits and VBA stroke in those older then 45 years. Positive associations were found between PCP [primary care physician] visit and VBA stroke in all age groups. Practitioner visits billed for headache and neck complaints were highly associated with subsequent VBA strokes.

Conclusion. VBA stroke is a rare event in the population. The increased risks of VBA stroke associated with chiropractic care and PCP visits is likely due to patients with headache and neck pain from VBA dissection seeking care before their stroke. We found no evidence of excess risk of VBA stroke associated chiropractic compared to primary care.
