It is known to many of us that there is a problem with some of our drinking water.Sometimes it is due to its bad taste while other times it is the smell. Our drinking water is healthy and safe lot of us dont recognize it.
It has been estimated over 60% of all types of cancer are linked to the environment. Studies have shown that municipal treated drinking water, surface and ground water has carcinogens. But it is often unnoticed because drinking water contains many protection ingredients that can help us in protecting from cancer.
Rate of heart problems and cancer deaths decreases in the areas where the drinking water has higher in amounts of TDS.
The addition of fluoride to drinking water is an issue which is difficult to find the correct answers for.  The unanswered questions on fluoridation are simply is it effective and is it safe?
Too much fluoride in few cases has been found to cause genetic damage in some plants and some animals, humans with birth defects and allergy symptoms ranging from headaches and fatigue to chronic diarrhea and other problems.
Researchers with the NCI (National Cancer Institute)hypothicate that as many as one tenth of cancer deaths in the US are due to fluoride in municipal drinking water.
The purification of drinking water using chlorine is a big problem as per experts. Some experts realize that tumor development, atherosclerosis and cancer are results of chlorine found in water. Scientists have performed experiments showing heart problems and common strokes also related to extra chlorine in drinking water.
Various states had opened studies which reveal that where levels of THMs is higher there are also links to larger levels of cancer.
Bottled water business has grown up due to concern over chlorine and fluoride. Many people prefer bottle water to tap water. But there is the still questions as to if bottled water is healthy water?”.
Use of filter is another healthy option. Both good and poor filters are obtainable. Some states take a 3rd party to examine water filters but the reports are hard for the most people to know.
Oral ingestion of chemicals are lower than skin absorption rates for chemicals both in adults and children as per some experts. It is also assumed that inhaling of trichloroethylene while showering is over 80 times greater than from drinking the same water.

Ans. Contrary to the old believe, studies over dandruff indicate that dandruff is not caused by too much use of shampoo or dry skin. Most common result of the cause of dandruff is found to get triggered by overactive oil glands, poor metabolism, excessive perspiration and many other factors. Among the before mentioned probabilities, more often than not, it is the result of a poor metabolic process.
The scalp has general process of constantly renewing and shedding itself due to a fungus called malassezia present in every bodys scalp. Thus the Old cells die out to make way for the new ones. So, dandruff is a normal phenomenon for every body. But dandruff symptoms gets aggravated when the scalp comes in contact of harse chemical effect of some hard shampoo, excessive exposure to dust, UV light, improper metabolic function of body. Actually these factors cause manifold increase in these fungus, they in turn causes formation of the new cells much faster than the rate of shedding off old cells. This excessive formation of new cells cause accumulation of unhealthy residue on the scalp in the form of flakes.
Too much oiliness of the skin rather than dryness also cause dandruff..Seasonal changes, emotional stress, certian diseases etc triggers a flare up. Other factors include family history, excessive sweating, using alkaline soaps, yeast infections and food allergies.

Caffeine decreases wheezing, coughing, and other symptoms of exercise induced asthma (EIA) according to a study from the Department of Kinesiology at Indiana University.

In a press release, the authors describe the effects of caffeine on EIA in 10 patients. A dose of 9 millogram per kilogram (mg/kg) of body weight before exercising was equivalent to using an albuterol inhaler before exercising. Lower doses of 3 and 6 mg/kg, respectively, did not decrease symptoms as well as the albuterol inhaler, but decreased the symptoms compared to placebo. No additional benefit was seen when combining albuterol with caffeine.

What does this mean for me? One should not go out and ramp up their caffiene intake on this study. It will however guide further study as researchers begin to look at other treatments for EIA.

If you are a woman over the age of 40, you probably know that you should be taking Vitamin D. Unfortunately, many women don't get enough. But did you know that not getting enough Vitamin D might be affecting your asthma?
According to researchers from the University of Pennsylvania, vitamin D may slow the progressive decline in lung function resulting from airway remodeling over time. In airway remodeling certain types of smooth muscle grow more prominent, cause inflammation, and can cause damage to the lungs. The researchers believe that the remodeling can possibly be prevented or slowed down if adequate amounts of vitamin D are consumed.
The researchers found that vitamin D decreased growth of smooth muscle inflammation in the lungs of 12 volunteers more than other potent anti-inflammatories. While the studies are preliminary, they continue to study vitamin D as an asthma therapy. According to a press release, the authors are going to preform a randomized controlled trial to determine the effect of vitamin D supplementation on patients with severe asthma.
How much vitamin D do you take? Would you consider taking more if studies end up demonstrating that it might improve your asthma.

How might the technology that keeps you from getting lost in your car lead to better asthma control? David Van Sickle, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health and Society Scholar in the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, wants to map where environmental exposures cause asthmatics to use their rescue inhalers.

Bt attaching the global positioning device directly to the inhaler Van Sickle hopes to be able to identify previously unknown causes of asthma and help health care providers better monitor asthma control. "Established risk factors for asthma do not explain its global prevalence patterns and time trends," says Van Sickle in a UW press release. "Studies of epidemic asthma have demonstrated that understanding the locations where asthma exacerbations occur can help identify important new exposures." Van Sickle says he can envision a time when GPS mapping of asthma outbreaks can allow researchers to "see" exactly what is making people sick. "It will allow us to better target public-health interventions to the places and times when people are really suffering."

If you are interested in participating in the Asthmap trial you must be 18, have a diagnosis of asthma, and use a rescue inhaler (bronchodilator). For more information, call 608-261-1036 or e-mail asthmap@mailplus.wisc.edu.

What many people did not know is that he also has asthma and works very hard to keep it under control. According to an interview published in 2006 in Asthma Magazine, he was diagnosed with asthma when he first went out for football and his symptoms were well controlled after beginning medication. Like many young people, he began not keeping a close eye on his asthma in college and had a severe asthma attack during a game that required oxygen and an injection to help him breathe better.

Jerome Bettis now works with the American Lung Association to promote asthma awareness.

Many common activities or events can trigger the urge to smoke. Knowing how to deal with them can help you deal with these triggers:

Finishing a meal. Get up from the table immediately and start a pleasurable activity. Try a walk or a new hobby.
Drinking coffee. Change the way you have coffee: the place, the coffee mug, everything that you did when you were smoking. Wait until you are at work to have your morning coffee.
Talking on the telephone. Use a phone in a different room when you are at home. At the office, there may be little you can do to change location. Have small objects nearby to handle while you are on the phone.
Between tasks. Instead of smoking a cigarette before moving on to your next project, try taking a short walk or reading a section of the newspaper or a chapter of a novel you're enjoying.
After an argument, disappointment, or negative event. If you are still feeling angry or upset, let off the steam by walking briskly around the building.
In the car. Since smoking has been banned in so many workplaces, cars are becoming a popular place to smoke. Remove the ashtray from your car, or fill it with potpourri or tiny strips of paper on which you've written the reasons you don't want to smoke anymore. Instead of smoking while you drive, play your favorite music on the stereo and sing along.
Activities at work and social events may trigger the urge to smoke. Here are some suggestions for avoiding these triggers:

Other people who smoke: Avoid the smoking areas at your workplace. If there is an entryway where people who smoke gather during breaks or before work, find another entryway, or time your arrival to avoid the smokers.
Work breaks: Avoid places where people who smoke go during the break. Seek out the company of people who don't smoke, and spend your break with them.
Parties: Quitting smoking may impact your social life. You don't have to skip parties altogether, but if you do go, don't accompany your friends when they go outside for a cigarette. If people are smoking indoors, or if it's an outdoor party, try to sit or stand as far away as possible from people who are smoking. Step out for a breath of fresh air if you need tobut don't smoke.

One of the recent debates related to healthcare deals with access. The theory goes that improved access will lead to better care for chronic diseases, a healthier population, and overall less costs. Realted to asthma, insurance coverage should lead to increased access and overall better asthma control. However, a study presented at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma Immunology (AAAAI) did not support this common sense perception.
Among students enrolled in the Denver Public School Asthma Program, 58% of students who self-identified a regular physician reported utilization of emergency care services compared to 27% who did not self-identify a regular physician. High rates of poorly controlled symptoms, hospitalization, prednisone use, and use of emergency care were noted in both the insured and uninsured groups. Similarly, poor use of inahled steroids was noted in both groups as well.
The authors concluded that the significant numbers of students with poorly controlled asthma, irregardless of insurance status, indicates the need for programs that can identify and monitor asthma in children that may be at higher risk of asthma morbidity. Why do you think asthmatics with insurance did not do better? Do you think findings like this have implications for some of the soon to be proposed healthcare reforms.

Asthma exacerbations can be life threatening and can occur in anyone with mild to severe asthma. Only 33% of asthma deaths occur in the hospital which means many asthma patients who die are either not seeking care or are not being hospitalized with their worsening asthma. Patients at high risk of asthma related death require intensive education and special care. Make sure you know if you are in one of the increased risk groups discussed below.
Importantly, 80-85% who die from asthma develop progressive symptoms over anywhere from 12 hours to several weeks. Only 15 to 20% die in less than 6 hours after developing symptoms. Thus, the vast majority of patients dying from asthma developed symptoms in a time frame that would have allowed them to seek appropriate medical care.

Chemotherapy (say: kee-moe-ther-ah-pee) is the use of medicines to treat cancer. Cancer is a disease that causes normal cells in the body to grow out of control. If left untreated, these cells can grow throughout the body making the person very sick. Chemotherapy medicines stop the growth of cancer cells. As the cancer goes away, the patient starts to feel better.

Both adults and kids can get cancer. No matter what age a person is, chemotherapy (also called chemo) may be used to treat the cancer. Sometimes people need to stay in the hospital to get chemo. But often, a person can just come to the hospital or doctor's office for treatment and go home afterward.

How Is Chemo Given?

Just as you can get other medicines by taking a pill or getting a shot, there are several ways to get chemo. A doctor called an oncologist (say: on-kah-loh-jist) will make the decision about which type of chemo is best for the patient. A person might take a pill or liquid or get an injection (shot). Another way of giving chemo is through an IV line, which is short for an intravenous (say: in-truh-vee-nus) line.

An IV line is a tiny tube that's put into a vein through someone's skin, usually on the arm. The IV line is attached to a bag or pump that holds the medicine. The chemo medicine flows from the bag or pump into the vein, which puts the medicine into the blood. Once the medicine is in the blood, it can travel through the body and attack cancer cells.

Sometimes doctors will insert a permanent IV line into a larger vein in the upper chest. This type of IV line is also called a catheter (say ka-thuh-ter). It allows a person to get chemo and other medicines easily without having to get a needle in the arm each time. Although it's called permanent, this type of catheter only stays in place until the person is finished with his or her cancer treatments. In addition to letting a person get chemo without having a new IV line inserted each time, a catheter lets doctors and nurses take blood samples and give other treatments without sticking the person with a needle.

Some cancers are treated with chemo alone. Others require a combination of treatments including chemo, radiation, and surgery. Like chemo, radiation kills cancer cells. Surgery can be used to remove big lumps of cancer cells called tumors.

What's Chemo Like?

The kinds of treatment used to fight cancer depend on the type of cancer and in how many parts of the body the cancer is found. Chemo is given on a schedule. Some people receive chemo every day. Others receive it every week or every month. Doctors use the word cycles to describe chemo because the treatment periods happen between periods of rest when a person isn't getting any treatment. These breaks allows the person's body to heal from the effects the chemo has on the cancer and on the body's normal cells.

Breaks from treatment are important because, during chemo, a person might experience some temporary health problems. These temporary problems are called side effects. All medications can have side effects. In their effort to kill cancer cells, chemo drugs can make normal cells sick. Breaks during chemo cycles allow time for normal cells to get better.

Because everyone's different, some people will have fewer side effects than others. Common side effects of chemotherapy are loss of appetite, vomiting, and temporary hair loss. A person receiving chemo also might feel tired, bruise easily, and catch infections easily.

There are medicines available that can help people feel better if they have side effects from chemo. Just having family and friends around for support can also make a person feel better. Doctors, nurses, and other members of the cancer treatment team will try to answer a person's questions, help them get well, and make them comfortable.

Coping With Chemo

Here are some tips for a person who's getting chemo:

* Get plenty of sleep.
* Eat healthy meals and drink plenty of fluids.
* Wash hands regularly, especially before eating, after using the bathroom, and after touching animals. This helps to prevent infection.
* Avoid large crowds and anyone who has a cold, the flu, or chicken pox. It's not a good time to get sick.

After chemo is over, the person will need to visit the doctor for checkups. The doctor will want to know how the person is feeling and check to see if the chemo did its job treating the cancer.

If you know someone who has cancer, the person will appreciate your phone calls, email messages, cards and letters, and visits. Let the person know you care and still want to spend time together.

And if you're a kid who has cancer, let your friends know you want to see them. Sometimes, people stay away because they think they might get in the way, don't know if you're allowed to have visitors, or are worried they'll disturb you if you're resting. As long as your doctor and your parent say it's OK, get together with your friends and have some fun.

Rupert started by reporting that some impotence is not due to any physical condition but is actually due to pure boredom.  Did you know that Good sex should not be rushed in a relationship; it needs time and intimacy to satisfy you physically and emotionally? – Men sometimes need a news article to direct them but really, any woman could probably tell you that.

Then, following his article on the fact that Cialis Daily has now been approved for use in the UK, Richard goes on to try and discuss whether Andropause was fact or fiction – suggesting that men may start to lose interest in sex due to the ‘male menopause’.  The big question to this is (even reflected in “womb mans” comment) - do men really ever lose interest in sex??  On a more informative approach, his article on hypertension just proved its link to impotence and stressed the fact that men need to uncover underlying reasons for their impotence not just cure it without looking further into the condition. To be honest though, Richards article on  how good erections lead to good relationships takes the biscuit here – so Pfizer do a study, the results being that  if you can’t keep your manhood hard,  your relationship will suffer – not happy to stop here, Pfizer suggest that the harder you get – the more positive your outlook on life!
