It finally happened this past weekend: Bandit fell into my dads pond.
After nearly three months of having our dog, we still dont know how he feels about the water. In two previous visits to my parents house in western Massachusetts, hed shown great interest in my fathers koi, going so far as to dip a paw in the water, but never jumping in. Whether it was because he was afraid, or because we shooed him away, we dont know.
But on the Fourth of July, while staring intently at the fish, one of the stones he was standing on wobbled loose and plopped into the water. Bandit followed suit. I ran outside and found him treading water and taking an occasional snap at a passing fish. The ponds about three feet deep, so Im not sure whether he was actually swimming, although he did look like he was paddling. He didnt seem to be enjoying himself, but he wasnt panicking.
Wed like to find out whether he can actually swim and how he feels in deeper water. Were not even sure if Round Lake is OK for a dip, and the deepest the creek in the village seems to get is about chest-high for Bandit.
Does your dog like the water? Where do you go for a canine swim in the Capital Region.

Want to make your hair curl? It is estimated there are 74 - 76 millions dogs in the U.S. Approximately 63% of homes have one or more dog. According to the Humane Society of the United States, approximately 7 unwanted, discarded like yesterday's newspaper, puppies/dogs are euthanized every minute, every day of the year. That is totally unacceptable.
An unaltered female dog can produce 2 litters a year. Fact is, she cannot do that by herself! On the average there are 6-10 puppies per litter. Within 6 years, from those 2 original breeders, there could be approximately 67,000 offspring! Do the math yourself, to figure how many offspring will be produced from those 67,000! It's mind staggering!
That is just one reason to neuter or spay your dog! There are plenty more.
For some reason, known only to them, men are the ones most reluctant to have their male dogs neutered. They don't feel that way about having their female dogs spayed! The irony is an intact female can produce perhaps 20 puppies a year. What an intact male can produce is in the thousands, especially if he is allowed to roam!
Interestingly, the procedure for neutering the male is a simple, uncomplicated process. Within a few days, as long as the incision site is kept clean, he's none the worse for wear. Whereas for the female, it is literally serious surgery, with a much longer recovery time!
Men, grow up! Stop transferring your identity and insecurities onto your dog. Be a responsible dog owner for the sake of your dog. Get them neutered as soon as possible.
The three misconceptions many veterinarians and trainers hear is, "Yeah, we're going to, but we want to make our money back!" If you could not afford that dog to begin with, why did you buy it?
Or, another good one is, "He (or she) is so wonderful, we want one of their puppies." News flash! There is no guarantee every puppy produced will have the intelligence and/or temperament of their sire or dam.
Greedy, inexperienced, and amateur breeders, looking to make their 'money back" or "make a few bucks," at the expense of the health and happiness of their dog, are one of the leading causes of why so many wonderful dogs are euthanized EVERY day!
The third excuse heard is, "We want him (her) to have the opportunity to fulfill the urge just once." Or, " Uncle Charlie said, she should have a litter before we spay her."
Wrong! The male dog doesn't always get rid of the urge! Sometimes, it makes it worse!
As for good, old Uncle Charlie's bright idea; is he going to adopt and responsibly take care of each puppy produced from that litter? Hopefully not! Odds are, he will never have them neutered or spayed; only adding to the problem.
Other fact-based reasons, besides over population for neuter and spaying include:
1. Safety - An intact male dog can smell an intact female in heat, almost 2 miles away! The natural instinct to reproduce can make an intact male dog that is street smart as dumb as a brick! The number one "unnatural" killer of dogs is a car! The preponderance of dogs seriously injured or killed, are intact males that are roaming.
2. Health - Intact male dogs are to contract prostrate problems, hernias, testicular cancer and anal tumors. Testicular cancer is totally eliminated. Intact female dogs are candidates for pyometria, uterine prolapse, birthing problems, mastitis, and specific cancers such as breast and uterine.
3. Behavior - Intact males are generally more aggressive, and destructive, due to excessive testosterone. Out of frustration they tend to destructively chew items, behave inappropriately (humping you, your children, and your guests) territorially mark inside the house, roam, get lost, and are more territorial about certain items in the home, such as YOUR bed, YOUR couch or YOUR chair. Note: Intact males also tend to fight more! That occasionally leads to serious injuries, even death.
4. Temperament - Neutered males are generally calmer. Neutered and spayed dogs are frequently more affectionate.
Bottom line: A healthy dog can be neutered or spayed at any age. Most veterinarians recommend before full puberty; give or take, around 5-6 months old. Lead by example for your children. Chances are, they too will be dog owners one day. Demonstrate responsible dog ownership, so they will automatically know to do the right thing.
If your dog has not been neutered or spayed, for their sake, do it now. If your puppy is nearing puberty, talk to your vet.
The advantages far out way the tribulations! Your dog will live a longer and happier life.

Is there really a big difference in quality between (canned) and dry dog foods? Of course you know that wet food invariably costs more than an equivalent amount of dry food, but are you really paying for better ingredients when you purchase wet food for your pet? Or is wet food simply a marketing gimmick?
As an owner, you probably want to find the dogs food you need to best assist your dog.
There are owners who believe, sometimes wrongfully so, that the wet foods are better in quality due to their expensive price tag. Seeing wet foods as “gourmet” does not mean that it is better in a dietary sense. So what are the advantages of one over the other?
Dry food works best for people who leave their food down all the time (free choice) because it wont dry out when left sitting for long periods. Its also less expensive per meal than canned, too. But, hey, some pets can be really picky eaters. Some will only eat certain flavors or brands of food. Others will eat only dry food, and still others will eat only wet food. By the way, unless your dog is a self-regulator (meaning he only eats to feel full and then quits), free choice isnt a great idea as it often leads to obesity.
Most dry dog foods are corn, soybean or rice based. Some of the better brands, however, have meat or fish meal as the first listed ingredient(s). Although higher priced, nutritionally speaking, they are worth checking out.
Dry dog foods have greater caloric density – meaning there is less water in a cup of food compared to a canned food diet. This isnt really an issue for smaller dogs, but your larger dog will have a problem eating enough volume of canned food to fulfill their caloric needs because there is also a lot of water in the food. Generally speaking, larger dogs, meaning those that weigh over 30 pounds (13.60 kg), should be fed a dry or semi-moist food.
Usually the only difference between the dry and canned versions of food is generally the water content. Another advantage of canned food is that it is very digestible and most do not contain preservatives. Dry food is very good for the teeth, but does not get rid of tartar. For that, you brush their teeth and offer your dog acceptable things to chew on.
It may become necessary to switch from canned dog food to dry dog food. Whether finances, medical conditions, or other factors are the reason, it is important to do the switch in a smart and responsible manner.
Canned food is drastically different from dry food in many ways aside from the texture. Often times, pets will resist the change and respond by acting out or just not eating the new food. This is why it is so important to change their food in a manner that is not stressful. Most owners will slowly add dry food to the bowl and bit by bit reduce the amount of wet food present until the dog is eating only the dry food. This is usually the best method as it slowly introduces your pet to the new food. The same method can be used when switching from dry food to wet food.
If your dog is eating around the newly introduced food then you may need to switch brands. And if all else fails, a hungry dog will eat; just make sure that your dog is healthy enough for such a drastic measure. It is best to consult with your veterinarian before attempting to switch food.
Keep a close eye on your dog during any transitions in foods. Improperly switching foods can lead to several side effects like the ones discussed above. A change in bowel movements and temperaments may also be a sign that the switch in foods is not agreeing with your dog. If this should happen, consult with your veterinarian.
Your choice of wet of dry food should be based not on those mouthwatering pictures on the cans or pouches of wet food, which make it look as if the ingredients could be popped into the microwave, heated and served with a salad and corn bread for a satisfying family meal. You should choose the food which will give your pet an adequate amount of calories in a single serving, while providing all the nutrients he or she needs to remain healthy and happy!
Thats it for this article. Hope it was helpful to you.

Knowing when to take your dog to the vet and when to let him “self-regulate is a pretty tricky business – how do you tell when he needs to see a professional? After all, it’s not as if you can rely on your dog to let you know.
Nobody likes forking out $80 for a needless visit to the vet, but then again no conscientious dog-owner can bear to contemplate their dog’s suffering, either! Frankly, it’s a bit of a quandary.
I’ve owned dogs on and off my whole life, and this is still something that I’ve never been 100% comfortable with. Of course, I’d always rather be safe than sorry (a viewpoint which has resulted in many, many unnecessary trips to the vet over the years, just to set my mind at rest). However, I’ve also always wished for the kind of solid grounding in canine medical basics which would enable me to confidently decide for myself when my dog needs to see the vet and when I can save both him and myself the hassle.
Stress-Free Dog Care
You can imagine the relief I felt when I ran across The Ultimate Guide to Dog Health (by Malcolm Fields – dog-care professional) on the Internet. It was uncanny because this guide is exactly what I was looking for. It’s complete and detailed, covering all the common health problems (both serious and not) that dogs suffer from. The overall focus is on being prepared and taking preventative action. It teaches you how to accurately self-diagnose (with the assistance of step-by-step flowcharts which tell you whether he’ll be fine by himself, whether he needs to see the vet, and how urgently the vet should be seen). While it’s packed with knowledge and advice from veterinarians and trained dog-care specialists, it’s easy on the eyes and reader-friendly. You can actually understand what they’re trying to say.
In a nutshell, it’s detailed (but not dauntingly so), comprehensive (covering all the common ailments and illnesses), knowledgeable (while retaining a conversational, easy-to-understand tone) and it gives you the kind of introduction to canine healthcare that’ll allow you to take good care of your dog – without spending unnecessary time and effort trying to absorb the jargon of a veterinary textbook!
What’s Actually Covered?
The book deals with all the common problems and ailments suffered by dogs. It covers issues like toothache and dental trouble, ear infections, skin rashes and chafing, eye irritations, worming issues, and lameness; chronic problems like vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, asthma, breathing trouble, and liver problems; more severe issues like arthritis and cancer; and symptomatic “alerts such as hair loss, lethargy, and behavioral changes.
On top of that, you also learn how to pick up early warning signs by identifying and accurately interpreting your dog’s body language; how to groom your dog quickly and effectively; how to take good care of his teeth and gums; how to administer medicine safely and easily; and how to recognize the early warning signs of health trouble through behavioral and physical changes. All this information is fully supplemented by full-color diagrams, photographs, and illustrations.
My Favorite Part
While it’s great to learn about canine anatomy and medical problems, the thing that I wanted to know more than anything else was: How can I tell how serious the problem is, and when do I need to take my dog to the vet?
So I was particularly happy to note the presence of the many and detailed symptom charts, which were designed especially to help owners make solid decisions about their dog’s health-care. Each chart starts from the specific symptoms of a particular ailment (you just follow the branches of the flowchart, depending on the symptoms that your dog has) and tells you the recommended path of treatment for each one, as well as advising whether veterinary care should be sought – and if so, how urgently. Pure genius!
Something for Nothing
In addition to the fully-illustrated, 240-page guide itself, you also get a handful of tempting freebies. Specifically, four bonus books:
-“The Ultimate Guide to Dog First Aid, which is an incredibly useful resource for those situations requiring an immediate response (including how to perform the canine Heimlich maneuver and doggie CPR)
-“180 Gourmet Recipes for Your Dog, which really teaches you how to indulge your pooch’s taste buds
-“101 Ways to Spoil Your Dog for Under $10, detailing all kinds of luxuries-on-a-budget and activities for you and your dog to enjoy together
-“20 Super-Healthy Recipes for Your Dog – which proves that doggie health-food is as delicious as anything else!
These books have a combined value of over $80 – not a bad freebie!
The Ultimate Guide to Dog Health: Summed Up
All in all, I couldn’t be happier with this product. It’s exactly what I was looking for – and even if I hadn’t spent the last decade or so wishing for a book just like it, I think I’d still snap it up in a second. It’s that useful.
This is an information resource that every responsible dog owner should have access to. Not only does it enable you to make good decisions about the more serious health issues commonly suffered by dogs, but you learn a lot about the minor, day-to-day ailments and afflictions that almost every dog will encounter from time to time, as well as a host of useful facts on preventative care. This comprehensive guide to dog health will help you to spot little problems before they become big ones. If you want to order this guide, then please click here.

I decided I would spend a productive July 4th you know, do a few things around the house, fix a nice meal, socialize with friends, watch some fireworks, and generally have a good day.
Should have known my day wouldnt go as planned.
I started out getting breakfast at Cracker Barrel, and tempting fate from the beginning. Last July 4, I did the same thing, and found an abandoned black lab puppy after indulging in a yummy breakfast.
Long story short, I found a home for my CB puppy, but think about him and what might have been. Im sure the Big Black Dog is happy to forget my momentary lapse in judgment. I made it through breakfast without finding a puppy or other animal, so I thought I was doing really good.
At Home Depot, I picked up a few things for weekend projects. Nothing major, just some air filters (overdue on that), air registers (noticed the one in the kitchen was looking really pathetic, so I thought Id update it and a couple of others), and a new programmable thermostat for the home air hat trick. An unplanned purchase, but I was in that aisle and thought I might as well get around to changing out the old one and maybe save a little money via energy savings in the process.
That, Dear Reader, is where I went wrong. Should have stuck with repainting the bathroom. Ive done that now twice, and never run into an issue. But no, I had to branch out and challenge myself.
I got home, got my shiny new thermostat out of the heinous plastic packaging, and proceeded to do my project. I found my breaker (yay! wasnt sure before) and turned off the heat and air unit. I got the old one off bad mercury, got to find out how to dispose of it and started getting the new one up.
Thats when I realized that I didnt have the small screwdrivers I needed because the ones I remember I had were in my old toolbox, which was stolen in the break-in. So off to Home Depot I go again, picking up the necessary things to finish my project.
Back home, I get the new one up, everything hooked up to the right thing. I went through the initial setup and had the fan running and cold air coming out of vents.
Success!
I call my parents to gloat, and even get a lecture on my language when I tell them that I f#^king rock because I did it all. my. self. So there. Ha!
Hubris? Iz got it.
I start programming the thing for various times and days Do I want it on 75F or 78F on Monday evenings? So many decisions! but notice that its not running any more. I troubleshoot as much as I can, talking to my dad on the phone through most of it as well.
Thats when I realize it might be good to call the technical support number you know, just in case.
The tech guy very nice, thank goodness he was working this holiday told me immediately what went wrong. Seems even though I make sure to mark the way the wires were hooked up on the old one, I should have switched B to C on the new one. This was something not noted in the installation instructions, because I checked after talking to him. Hooking it on the new one at B caused a fuse to blow on my heat and air unit.
He talked me through things, making sure everything else is okay, which it is. So I did the right thing, but didnt know that the right thing also involved knowing to change something that wasnt in the instructions, and thus blowing a fuse.
Better this $0.50 fuse than a big blow out somewhere else, right? Problem is finding this cheap fuse, says Mr. Nice Tech Support.
And thats when things got not so good.
Im not a heat and air technician, and I do not play one on tv. After consulting my dad, I start unscrewing anything unscrew-able on my unit, trying to find a fuse that I probably wont recognize. Thats what my iphone is for taking pictures as I go, sending them to my dad, and then talking about if Ive found it yet.
Oh, and having to trim the stupid bush thing that someone planted right next to the unit, in a very pointless spot. And by trimming, I mean ruthlessly cutting it away without regard for anything other than access to the side of my house. When this affair is over, that overgrown greenery is gone.
Anyway, after an hour of messing around with that, I concede defeat, and decide to call in the professionals. That was at 12:45p. Its now 3:45p, and the tech has called to say he has another job first and hell be at my place sometime later.
So I wait. No air conditioning on July 4th, evening plans canceled because I dont know when this will be fixed. UPDATE: Fixed as of 7:30p. Yay!
Its 88F outside, but my new thermostat says its a comfortable 80F inside. I got the windows open to get what little breeze there is. At least the humidity is low, so its really not bad. Of all the decisions I made, doing it on a day when the weather was bearable pure chance, but hey, take what I can get was the only right one.
I have no idea what this learning lesson as my mom is calling it is going to cost me. UPDATE: $378. Turns out theres not a fuse to find, so it went ahead and blew the transformer. So I had to replace the transformer and have a fuse installed. But hey, I got cold air now. Yay.

Yay.

Guess what! My wedding anniversary is coming up next month!
Ben and I were married July 3, 2005 (he would be proud of me for remembering the date!) so we'll be celebrating 4 years!
According to Google, that is the "silk" anniversary... I'll have to tell Ben to get me something silk, I guess.
Actually, we usually don't get each other gifts, we try to do something experiential instead. We've done things like go raspberry picking at a local farm, or go to the beach, walk out on the pier, and eat a nice seafood dinner.
Last year we went out for sushi. We'll see what we feel like doing this time around...
Maybe I will ask for a massage!
One of the things I ALWAYS feel like doing is getting a massage! I've only had 4 professional massages in my life, but they were wonderful, very powerful and relaxing.
If you've ever had a really good massage, you know what I'm talking about!
Now - here's the kicker - did you know that dogs like massage, too?
You've probably noticed that your dog likes it when you rub him in a certain place.
Kera's little trick was to come up to my husband, Ben, while he was playing computer games and put her head under his mouse-hand. Before he knew it, he was scratching her behind the ears instead of surfing on the PC.
Did you know that you can use dog massage to:
Treat your dog's arthritis
Help your dog de-stress
Help your dog recover from injury and
Bond with your dog?
If your dog is older, suffers from chronic pain or poor circulation, is tired or sore after athletic activities, or suffers from arthritis, he may be a candidate for dog massage.
This is something that you can easily learn to do yourself, or you can hire out to a therapist. Personally, I feel that massage is a great bonding activity. Once you're comfortable with it, you can easily massage your dog while you watch TV, listen to music, or talk with friends and family.
What's more, it's easy to learn. These dog massage videos by a licensed massage practitioner, show you exactly what to do and what not to do - you'll be up to speed in just an hour.
Visit the site to get access to the first few lessons (scroll down for Zoe's special offer) and see if dog massage is right for you and your pet!
Even without formal training, your dog will still benefit from your attention and your fingers in her fur! Go give your dog a hug from me, and tell her you love her.

Cassandra Reed, nicknamed The spunky chick and who supplied the to the competition, was the eighth groomer to be clipped from Groomer Has Its Season Two, dashing her dream to become Americas Top Groomer.
Cassandra, who came into the competition determined to prove that she t just another pretty face, has 5 years of grooming experience under her belt and works at The Clipper Cottage in Mogadore, Ohio, where her goal is to ultimately own her own grooming salon. Id say she hung in the competition longer than a lot of groomers with many more years of experience, so she did herself proud!
Cassandra answered a few questions we had for her here:
CDW: First of all, we HAVE to ask you if yours and Marcos relationship was really as antagonistic as it came across? We know theres creative editing, but was he the biggest thorn in your side in the Dog House and the competition?
Cassandra: I wouldnt say Marco was a thorn in my side. Hes very business-oriented and likes things done his way kinda like everyone else, but I think in our case he would just not take any suggestions I had, and would not take them into consideration. I do wish Marco luck and continued success in his businesses though.
CDW: It seemed like it was really pivotal for you to reach the top 4. Why was it so important for you to have made it to the top 4 as opposed to the top 5?
Cassandra: When I got into the Dog House and sized up my competition, I knew I could go pretty far. I wasnt sure I could win however. I set a goal for myself and that goal was to be in the final four! I knew I could do it and I should have been. The judges told me if Lisa did not save Danielle, I would have stayed and Danielle would have gone home!! No hard feelings though. I love Lisa and Danielle. I feel really accomplished to get as far as I did, even to make it on the show was awesome!
CDW: Were you at all suprised when Lisa chose Danielle to save when you were in the bottom two, or did you feel like that was a given once it was you and Danielle at the bottom?
Cassandra: I was not surprised at all that Lisa picked Danielle. They were very close in the house. We all got along of course, but I think that even though Lisa said she thought Danielle might be a better competitor to her, I think she just said that and was really scared of me! Hey, thats what I tell myself to make myself feel better, HAHAHA!
CDW: We thought you did a great job in the grooming challenge making your dog look like its owner! How do you feel you did despite the judges comments that it wasnt carried through or creative enough?
Cassandra: I wish the judges would have remembered how annoying my owner was! He kept asking me questions like Are you done yet? and saying It doesnt have to be perfect, does it? I said Yes it does!!!!. The owner also wouldnt dress up like I wanted to. I dont think the judges took all that into consideration. I went with the owners idea because I figured if I didnt, the judges would have complained about that. If I could do it again, I would just go with my idea!!!!
CDW: Who did you get along best with in the Dog House and do you think youll maintain contact with any of your co-competitors?
Cassandra: I got along with most of everyone. I talk to Bill, Sherri and Lisa the most out of everyone. Occasionally, I talk to Danielle and Chicken Joe.
CDW: What out of all the challenges you participated in was your favorite, and which was your least favorite and why?
Cassandra: My favorite episode was the shelter one. It made me realize being a groomer, I can volunteer my time helping dogs find homes. That is exactly what I did when I got home. I now volunteer at a local animal shelter (the Portage Animal Protection League) . My least favorite was the Labradoodle challenge. Everyones dog was so matted they should have been shaved down. Im not the kind of groomer who likes to shave any dog down, but this would have been an exception. I felt so bad for those dogs.
CDW: Did you truly feel intimidated by Doc Halligan or was it just a misunderstanding, or miscommunication and do you feel that may have been key to your being clipped this week?
Cassandra: I felt that every time Doc and I spoke to each other, she really did not care much for what I said. It was almost like she didnt believe anything I said. I guess it could have been my nerves, but Joey and X didnt make me feel that way. I dont think it has anything to do with me being clipped because if Danielle had not been saved, she wouldve been the one going home and not me.
CDW: Is there any specific thing you wish youd done differently that might have affected the outcome in your being clipped so soon?
Cassandra: I really did the best I could on each challenge, so its hard to say what I would have done differently. I would have loved to have gotten dogs who were actually groomable. Most of mine were 11+years old with arthritis, could barely stand, were 3 times bigger and had that much more hair than everyone elses. Really watch the episodes again!!! Im not making it up!! Thank you so much for this interview opportunity! It was lots of fun!
Cassandra, you were lots of fun too, and well miss seeing you on Groomer Has Its remaining episodes! Good luck to you in your grooming career and we hope you achieve your dream of owning your own salon! Thanks again for answering our questions.

Dear U of D Family and Friends,
Good morning!
I found this dog on Memorial Day, wandering in the rain behind the local elementary school where I feed cats. She is very sweet and very well-behaved and appears to be a senior, although her teeth look pretty good. She walks with a pronounced limp - I think she has arthritis and I've been giving her one aspirin twice a day and it seems to help quite a bit. I put flyers up everywhere, contacted animal control and the local vet to see if she had been reported missing, put her on Petfinders and walked her through downtown Geneva (such as it is!) to ask around and see if anyone would recognize her. No luck so far and I'm really beginning to think some jerk brought her out here and dumped her at the school in the rain. My problem is I have nowhere to keep this sweet dog. She's been staying in the utility room during the day (air-conditioned) and the garage at night and I know she's lonesome out there, but I have 20 cats and a litter of foster kittens and I just can't let her in the house like I would like to. As it is the cats are freaking out and peeing everywhere and a couple of the outside cats won't come near the house to eat. I know you guys have all either done or still do dog rescue - do you have any contacts, suggestions, fosters, etc. to help this dog? I can make a donation, I can give sweat equity, whatever, I just really, really need a place for her to stay and be cared for properly. My number is 407-719-4479 - thank you in advance!

When your four-legged best friend engages in a dog fight, your first concern should be your own safety. As much as you want to protect your pet, you might as well think of your own life. You can never enjoy companionship with your pooch if you die saving it anyway. But how does one handle situations like this one? How do you get your pet out of a dog fight and avoid injury? Dogs are generally friendly to people and animals they get used associating with. Well-trained ones appear to be even friendly to complete strangers. A poorly-trained canine on the other hand manifests unfriendly behavior at almost an unconscious manner to nearly everyone that crosses its path.

NY Bronx Dog Protects Injured Mother Dog On Deegan Expressway. Some of you might think that New York city is a dog eat dog world, especially during New York Citys rush hour drivingbut two canines prove that is anything but the truth.
Just before 6:30AM, a 9 year old female yellow lab chow mix ran onto the Major Deegan Expressway and was hit by an oncoming car at exit 3. Thats when another dog, her son, ran to the rescue.

A few facts that may be useful:
(1) The F-16 family of aircraft does in fact have two seater trainer versions (however, I haven't a seen a photograph of the F-16s accompanying the 747 that has sufficient clarity to determine if either is a trainer version.
(2) No F-16 pilot can "steer with his knees" as the aircraft is controlled by a sidestick controller that operates via a fly-by-wire system.
(3) The F-16 can be flown on autopilot.
(4) Pilots of large, expensive to operate and maintain military aircraft gain necessary flying hours by piloting smaller, cheaper aircraft such as T-38 trainers.
(5) No military aircraft leaves the ground, anywhere, without those high up on the chain of command knowing about it and authorizing it. This would be so for Air Force One unless the Obama administration allows the aircraft to be treated like a privately owned light aircraft hangered in Uncle Fred's barn.
That being understood, here are reasons why the F-16 is a particularly awful photography platform:
(1) The cockpit in even the trainer version is very tight, with both pilots tightly strapped into seats that recline sharply to assist in dealing with high G forces. This makes manipulating cameras of sufficient quality (required for good photos) and size difficult at best.
(2) The canopy of the F-16 is essentially a one piece, continually curved plexiglas bubble, introducing distortion, light flares, and all manner of other problems into the photography equation. No competent photographer would try to shoot through this kind of medium under these conditions unless they had no choice.
(3) Fighter aircraft, at the low speeds apparent in this situation, are barely above stall speed and subject to significant buffeting. They are not stable photographic platforms. This is true of any light aircraft, particularly when compared with much larger aircraft.
(4) The released photograph is indeed poor in quality in every facet of photography, particularly when one considers framing, background and composition. It looks like the kind of thing a fighter jock might shoot, one handed, with a little digital camera that would fit in a flight suit pocket.
I'm surprised that no one had demanded a list of the crews of all involved aircraft, and the opportunity to interview them absent White House minders. It would also be interesting to learn who the official "photographer" for this mission was and to find out why they were apparently flying in a very poor platform and what kind of training they had (was this person actually a military photographer? Was there, in fact, a qualified photographer on hand?) and equipment they used. One suspects that the story of this mission would be quite different if we could speak with those involved.

Travel season is ultimately here again and that implies loads of cats and dogs will be lost and never again found by their sad owners. Make your travel as excellent for your Chihuahua as it is for you. So, what are a selection of the things you can do to get ready for your trip with your Chi? You do not desire your Chi to drink any water that you arent one hundred percent certain is fit for consumption. Plastic boxes, like Tupperware, are excellent for keeping food and treats fresh. Whether youve had your Chihuahua for several years or you have just taken your first Chi home, theyre going to be full of surprises which will keep you entertained so long as they live. There life outlook is fifteen years and they occasionally live into their early twenties. However, Chihuahuas are not a good type of choice for everybody. Chihuahuas are not usually patient around youngsters who dont get just how frail they are. Pet car seat cover. They recognize and accept their own reproduce but do not like other breeds of dogs. Chis have been know to attack other much bigger dogs its your responsibility, as an owner, to keep this from going down. She was ignorant of the other dog being nearby.
Everyone knows our Chihuahuas are very like our kids so keep a protecting eye on him / her and be conscious of whats around you if your Chi isnt in your arms or a carrier. Joanell is a typical Chihuahua dog lover who wants to be certain you are selecting a Chihuahua because this is the right dog for you and not only because they are cute. Bandages are a good thing to have along in case they step on a tiny piece of glass or other pointy item at the various stops youll be making along the path. Depending on where you reside, where you are traveling too, and when youre leaving, you will have a cool evening or 2. Chihuahuas get cold awfully simply so have a coat or sweater in case.
Crate ( if your Chi is used to being in one and you have space for it. The base line is make preparations, prepare previously, have a check list to be sure nothing is left at the back by accident, and have a great holiday or trip with no mishaps along the path that cannot be handled efficiently.

There are over 700 spring time plants that are poisonous to pets, this is just a few that many people have planted around their house. I have several of these myself and I am careful to not let my dogs get hold of them. Putting up simple fences is one way to keep your pet's from getting to these plants.

HOW THEY MET: I found her in an ad in the Washington Post from a breeder in Southern Maryland. The breeder changed her mind after posting the ad for the LAST puppy of the litter (and the runt too!), but I showed up and convinced her that Sadie would have a wonderful life with me....living on a boat in DC and a log cabin in WV and going to work with me every day!
AGE:Annapolis
EED:Long-Haired Miniature Dachshund
BEST TRICK: Her best trick is LOOKING CUTE! Besides that she can sit up and look pretty.
FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Her favorite activities are going to work with me. She sits ON my desk and looks out the window (as shown in the photo) and when she is not doing that she is reading the Dachshund book on my desk or snoozing UNDER the desk in her foo foo burgundy velvet dog bed! She also LOVES to ride in the rear window of my Jaguar and often sleeps there. People often think she is a stuffed dog in my rear window and when she wakes up and looks at them, people pull up to me on the road and wave and honk their car horn and SMILE!
FAVORITE FOOD:ICE CREAM (her first flavor was Bubble Gum ice cream and so for years she used to sneak in my purse and find gum and chew it!) Cottage cheese is another favorite. She can understand the spelling of BOTH of those words. But any human food is her favorite food.
FUNNIEST MOMENT: The funniest moment (but could have been tragic) of Sadie's life is when she was sitting on the porch swing with me on the patio of my SECOND floor condo. This squirrel used to torment her by running up and down a tree about 5 feet from the rail of the patio. One day she had enough of the squirrel's torment and JUMPED off the balcony to catch it and fell 20 feet to the ground. My heart sank as I jumped up to look over the patio rail, and she was already up and running after the squirrel and almost caught it!! (I took her to the vet...one broken rib and cracked diaphragm.)
HER QUIRK:She LOVES pillows. She will pile up all the pillows on a bed and plop herself down for a nap.
IF SADIE HAD A MOTTO FOR LIFE, IT WOULD BE:You can never have too many fluffy pillows.

When glyphs came out along with Wrath of the Lich King, it brought along a huge opportunity for making more money on World of Warcraft.
There are a lot of different glyphs to choose from and most of them sell for quite a lot if you know how to play your cards right. Some people try to sell these items fast by pricing them low, dont do it like that!
People are not entirely sure about the prices yet, but dont follow their examples if they are selling for way too low!
Even the most common glyphs can sell for a good pricem but if you really want to make tons of gold within a reasonable amount of time, you should look into the Northrend glyphs.
This means you should focus on the glyphs made from Ink of the sea. This includes Death and Decay, Icebound Fortitude, Chains of Ice, Molten Armor, etc.
While youre looking into glyphs, dont forget to check out the other ones that also sell for a good price, Glyph of Mortal Strike, Glyph of Lightwell, Glyph of Unstable Affliction, Glyph of Adrenaline rush, and many others.
Northrend glyphs are actually the best way to go, they are the high-end part of the glyphs market, and if you manage to create a considerable pipeline through these glyphs, you will be able to double your capital within a couple of days to a week. Northrend glyphs easily sell for 20 gold minimum! You can easily make thousands of gold a day if you play your cards right.
Also to be considered are herbs. Herbs have been in demand in most servers, ever since Wrath of the Lich King came out because of inscription. Once again, you should go for the high-end ones. Theres a huge demand for Northrend herbs such as Tiger Lily, Deadnettle, and Goldclover. The other good herbs to consider selling are Talandras Rose, Adders tongue, Frost Lotus, and many others.
You will make a lot of gold from selling these herbs at the Auction house. Ive seen these going for a lot, so consider looking into these items mentioned here and start making money.

Bondo here... I had so much fun on my birthday that it took me a few weeks to recover. Ill be better about blogging. I promise. In the meantime, meet Daisy!
Hi Im Daisy and Im one lucky dog. Im a whopping 17 years old. As I got older, my back legs started going (that darn arthritis), and my daddies got me this nifty cart from Doggon Wheels. Now I can walk faster and farther than when I was a spry 15 year old. Im not a big fan of my slippers but I know they are good to protect my back feet. I still love to walk all the way around the block and even play with a couple of neighborhood dogs (I know they are just jealous of my wheels).

Dogs, like wolves, are pack animals. Get a few dogs together and you will see the pack instinct appear. The dogs will stay close to each other, and will do the same types of things at the same time. A hierarchy is formed, with some of the dogs being dominant, and some submissive. If you have more than one dog, or if you introduce a new dog to a group, you may well have problems while they sort out the new hierarchy, but once it is sorted, life will settle down.

Many individuals could not reflect on a life without their dog as they see them as more than a immediate family member but as a regular companion that they may not have ever experienced in another human being.
A dog will get just as much enjoyment from lying on the floor near you if you havent the energy for a walk, never protestant. It is understandable why many individuals prefer the company of their dog over that of another human being when they so rarely demand anything other than your love.
Other than love, there are few ways we can really show our appreciation for the love and companionship a dog provides except by keeping them in first class health which can be done with a dog insurance plan. Pet insurance providers know how important pets are to individuals and can arrange a big number of health plans that can cover virtually every type of position. Even the healthiest of dogs can become sick and knowing you have an dog insurance insurance policy that will pay for medical attention means that the cost is never a concern.
While the huge advancements in pet health have lead to procedures being carried out now that just werent available a few short years ago, they come at a cost which health plans can help offset. Dogs and other pets are now able to benefit for transplant surgery and for certain pets, they can even replace hips which even now is hard to believe. Some dog conditions are genetic like heart enlargement, epilepsy and even hip dysplasia.
Many diseases that dogs are prone to suffer from do not happen until they reach middle age and of course by then, the dog is a member of a family and loved by everyone. A dog policy therefore helps the owner to provide the best treatment in such circumstances without feeling the fiscal pressure of providing the best health care for the dog. Many owners underestimate just how much time a dog needs when it comes to ensuring their continued good health and while they are great companions they are prone to a number of parasites; these like to make their home on a dog.
All these processes form an integral part of the dogs regular check up by the vet so dog health insurance often covers the necessary processes thereby enabling the owner to provide the best care for his beloved pet. This should mean that your dogs health needs are continued, ensuring they have a long fulfilling life as part of the family. If you are not sure where to start in your search for a good plan then ask some of your neighbors who have dogs and see if they can advise you on a dog insurance plan that will cover everything discussed here.
