I am a Unitarian, and the food of my religion appear to be junk foods because the spiritual qualities are also religious. Even if they are nutritious, is it a good idea to ration them, or eat them in small quantities, because of their halluciogenic properties? I know that junk foods are unhealthy, and I do not eat such foods, but a Big Mac can be mistaken for a garage burger of sorts. Please help me draw the line such as, One makes you fat, the other makes you high. One has cholesterol, the other has LSD and so on. Given the obesity epidemic, I do not wish for an underground movement to replace all fast food chains if fast food was outlawed, especially to ensure the health of our fellow citizens. Please help, for I am also a professional chef, and I pray to Gaia for someone with a heart to answer with the best of his abiilities. May we be blessed with the bounties of Gaia as long as we live.

iPhone: The Missing Manual: Covers the iPhone 3G
The new iPhone 3G is here, and New York Times tech columnist David Pogue is on top of it with a thoroughly updated edition of iPhone: The Missing Manual. With its faster downloads, touch-screen iPod, and best-ever mobile Web browser, the new affordable iPhone is packed with possibilities. But without an objective guide like this one, youll never unlock all it can do for you. In this new edition, there are new chapters on the App Store, with special troubleshooting and sycning issues with iTunes; Apples new MobileMe service, and what it means to the iPhone; and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync compatibility. Each custom designed page in iPhone: The Missing Manual helps you accomplish specific tasks with complete step-by-step instructions for everything from scheduling to web browsing to watching videos. Youll learn how to: Use the iPhone as a phone get a guided tour of 3Gs phone features and learn how much time you can save with things like Visual Voicemail, contact searching, and more Figure out what 3G means and how it affects battery life, internet speed, and even phone call audio quality. Treat the iPhone as an iPod listen to music, upload and view photos, and fill the iPhone with TV shows and movies Take the iPhone online learn how to get online, use email, browse the Web, and use the GPS Go beyond the iPhone discover how to use iPhone with iTunes, sync it with your calendar, and learn about The App Store where you can pick from hundreds of iPhone-friendly programs Teeming with high-quality color graphics and filled with humor, tips, tricks, and surprises, iPhone: The Missing Manual quickly teaches you how to set up, accessorize, and troubleshoot your iPhone. Instead offumbling around, take advantage of this device with the manual that should have been in the box. Its your call.

Customer Review: I got the first editon which does not cover the new features of 2.0
Beware of what you get, I was not paying attention and got shafted, as you can imagine Im not happy about it:(
I read about half of the book wondering why there was no mention of so many features before I realized this was an out of date book.
I dont blame the publisher but Im really POd with Amazon for shipping me out an older edition. In future I will stick to buying my books at a bookstore and also checking the publishing dates before buying.
Customer Review: An Outsiders View of the iPhone
The iPhone takes center stage in another installment of David Pogues The Missing Manual series. This readable aftermarket manual isnt in the box but it is available on the iPhone from its App Store. On the iPhone you can read it anywhere and flick back and forth between the books recommendations and the iPhone apps where you can try them out.
Its hard to serve two masters, but this book does equally well for experienced gadgeteers and fresh technovices. Those terrified to touch their new toy are comforted by an initial guided tour of basic button presses and finger flicks. Users upgrading from inferior PDAs or cell phones benefit from subsequent chapters covering the iPhones features. These chapters are equally readable, browsable and searchable. Each is well organized, covers its topic briefly yet thoroughly, and includes a distilled collection of tips and tricks.
Pogue practices humor with a light touch, refreshing the reader without interrupting or lengthening the mainstream flow of information. He includes humorous examples in his screen shots, such as a calendar entry for the premier of a sequel and a YouTube video of The Inappropriate Yoga Guy. He also makes light of possible data security issues such as hiding an impending elopement from ones parents or concealing evidence of a job search from the boss. These small brush strokes make the books lessons more memorable as well as easier to read. Nicely done.
The authors trademark missing manual theme is effective branding, but really runs counter to one of the books strengths. Pogues irreverent style, some of the information, and much of the advice he supplies could not exist in a corporate manualeven one from Apple. Pogue engages with the iPhone from a users perspective, even taking issue with Apple design decisions like the missing copy, cut and paste features. He touts third party software and workarounds with a candor unencumbered by Apples alliances and strategic plans. Pogue helpfully redefines the very interface language, such as pinch and spread for the Apple-defined finger movements of pinch in and pinch out.
I like the authors advice most when he competently describes an Apple-supplied app, then dismisses it in favor of some third-party emergent that does the job better. His rejection of the iPhone camera in favor of Air Me is one good example of this. These departures from the Apple view help the userand wouldnt be present if the manual were in the box.
Read this book, on your iPhone or off. Appreciate Pogues outsider view, free to endorse what works bestfree to advise without supporting any design philosophy, furthering Apple business goals, or maintaining some artificial to competing app developers at the expense of giving readers the best advice he can.

An adult female flea can lay up to 2000 eggs in her lifetime, each of which can grow up to live on your pet and lay more eggs in your home. Given the speed at which these pests reproduce, its no wonder that fighting an infestation can feel like a losing battle. 100% safe and effective, Program is like a birth control pill for fleas, controlling flea populations by preventing the development of eggs and larvae. Once the life cycle is broken, existing adult fleas die off to leave your pet flea-free. Pre-existing immature fleas in the dog’s environment may continue to develop for a short time. This emergence generally occurs during the first 30 to 60 days, so if your pet already has fleas, noticeable results may not be observed until several weeks after dosing. To speed up the process for particularly severe infestations, you can use a product that kills adult fleas in conjunction with the first dose of Program. (Your veterinarian can recommend the most effective treatment plan for your pet.) Perhaps the best way to use Program, however, is before the problem even starts, administering a Flavor Tab once a month year round to prevent your pet from ever developing an infestation. Always give Flavor Tabs with or just after a meal, crushing and mixing with wet food or dosing directly. Be sure to treat every pet in the household for the most effective results. This product includes 6, 204.9-milligram tablets appropriate for dogs 21 through 45 pounds, and cats 7 through 15 pounds. Program is safe for puppies and kittens as young as four weeks old. Label Information
Ingredients
The active ingredient in Program Flavor Tabs is lufenuron, a benzoylphenylurea derivative classified as an insect development inhibitor (IDI). As an insect development inhibitor, Program Flavor Tabs do not kill adult fleas. Instead, they effectively and safely control flea populations on your pet by breaking the flea’s life cycle at the egg stage. Without concurrent use of an adulticide, adequate flea control may not be achieved in pets that have repeated exposure to flea-infested animals or environments. Warnings
Not for human use. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. The following adverse reactions have been reported in dogs after giving Program Flavor Tabs: vomiting, depression/ lethargy, pruritus (itchy, scratchy skin), urticaria (wheals, hives), diarrhea, anorexia (loss of appetite), and skin congestion (red skin). Special Instructions
To ensure adequate absorption, always administer Program Flavor Tabs immediately after or in conjunction with a normal meal. Be certain the dog consumes the entire tablet or tablets. As an alternative to direct dosing, tablets may mixed in food. Watch the dog closely following dosing to be sure the entire dose has been consumed. If it is not entirely consumed, redose once with the full recommended dose as soon as possible.
To ensure that your pet gets the greatest benefit from treatment, administer the tablet or tablets once a month. If you miss the 30-day interval, give Program Flavor Tabs immediately and resume your monthly dosing schedule.
PROGRAM Flavor Tabs should be stored at room temperature, between 59° and 86°F (15-30°C).
Customer Review: Each product has its merits and limitations
Theres a good article comparing the flea products: [...]
The condition of the surrounding and pets all need to be considered before choosing the right product that suits your needs. I have a cat and dog. My dog is a flea magnet and the only product that works for him is Revolution and I love the fact that its a heart worm prevention med also. However I put the cat on Program since she is an indoor cat and I feel more comfortable using this on her because my dog licks my cat but not vice versa. I use the Greenie pill pockets to wrap the tablet and has no problem at all enticing her to eat it. So far this combination works perfect for me. Every animal is different. It takes a little trial and error to find the best product for that animal specifically.
Customer Review: Easy to pill your cat
Taste like a cat treat. Break em in half to get smell going, and all 6 of my cats (the spoiled and the ferals) ate it right up. Works great.

Gastric ulcers in dogs, is this possible? Can a dog actually get an ulcer?
The answer is yes they can, and it is a lot more common than most dogs owners realize.
In fully understanding exactly what ulcers in dogs actually are, it is best to understand what they are not. Ulcers in humans and dogs are very similar, in that the original cause of an ulcer will be from bacteria, usually from water or food that has been infected.
Peptic ulcers that form within the stomach of your dog are called gastric ulcers, and occur when either the intestine or the stomachs protective layers become weak. When this occurs, digestive juices can and often does damage the intestine or the tissues of your pets stomach.
These juices contain hydrochloric acid and an enzyme that is called pepsin, thus the term peptic ulcers. These type of ulcers can also cause damage to the esophagus, which is the tube that leads from you dogs stomach to their throat
But there is a fine line between an actual ulcer in your dog, and a condition called canine gastritis. Gastritis is a condition that also affects your dogs stomach, causing it to become irritated as well as inflamed. If it is only inflammation, and not an infection, the symptoms will be much less severe.
It is estimated that over fifty percent of dogs worldwide may have an ulcer or gastritis.
Causes:
There are two major causes of Peptic ulcers in your dog.
The first is from a bacterium that is called Helicobacter pylori, also referred to as H. pylori. This is believed to be the major cause, but that is starting to change. Just like with people, especially in the United States, not every dog that is infected with this bacteria will develop ulcers as a lot of the development will depend on the strength of the immune system and the actual type of H. pylori that has infected your dog.
Water supplies in the United States are also a lot safer than in several parts of the world.
The second cause was almost non existent just ten years ago, but it is now considered a real potential contributor to ulcers in dogs. Non steroidal or anti-inflammatory drugs, referred to as NSAIDs, are fast becoming a concern for producing dog ulcers.
These drugs breakdown the stomach acids in your dog in the same way that the bacterium does, and are now widely used in dogs with joint problems or for pain after a surgery. It has been a real break through in easing pain, but it has several side effects, including causing ulcers.
The common misconception with some dog owners that stress can cause ulcers has no real proof, but it has proven to cause minor symptoms of gastritis.
Symptoms:
There are several symptoms that owners can watch for to easily identify that your dog will have either gastritis or actual peptic ulcers. If theses symptoms are chronic and more severe in nature, they most likely have an ulcer.
The first obvious symptom will be abdominal cramping and pain in your dogs stomach, followed by diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. What you will really need to watch for is bloating in your dog, as this can be much more serious than just an ulcer, as bloat in dogs can take their life very quickly.
If the conditions continue to worsen and become chronic, your dog will start to loose their appetitive altogether, which could than lead to a loss in weight as well as your pet becoming weak, and than also runs the rick of anemia.
One other symptom you need to watch for is your dog starting to vomit a clear, yellowish liquid. This is not real serious, and usually just indicates that your dogs stomach is empty and the bile and acids that have accumulated make them vomit. Although uncomfortable for your dog, it is not real severe, but it is a symptom.
Treatments:
The good news about gastric ulcers is that it has several methods of treatment, as well as prevention, and they have proven to be very effective.
To help youre pet limit the yellowish vomiting or mild vomiting, simply feed them more frequently. You might also want to try giving them some wet dog food, or try putting some water in their dry kibble.
When youre pet eats only dry food, the food expands in their stomach. Watering it will help the natural enzyme process in breaking it down before expanding.
Medications for humans are also very effective for dogs with ulcers, such as Pepcid AC, Zantac, and Tagement, although they are quite expensive. Other supplements such as L-glutamine, which is an amino acid that protects and heals your dogs mucous membranes, is also very effective.
There are also vitamins and minerals that will help. Vitamin A helps the healing processes of your dogs mucous membranes, and the mineral Zinc help to repair the damages tissues in the stomach and digestive tract.
However, there is one thing that most dog owners dont realize that is almost a miracle cure for ulcers in dogs. Licorice or licorice root has a very long history of soothing inflamed and injured mucous membranes in digestive tracts. Licorice root also helps to stimulate cell growth in the stomach lining. It is also very inexpensive.
Ulcers can be very easily controlled in your dog if you watch for the symptoms and react quickly to them.

Customer Review: Great Deal!!
I purchased this product since it was cheaper than the version offered at Brookstone. My wife loves it, she has used it almost every night since Christmas 08. The product has worked as we expected it to. I personally however dont like it or the one offered at Brookstone as it will crush your feet. So I suggest that you try this out at the store. If you can handle the pain then by all means purchase this one as it is much cheaper than Brookstones and this model offers a nice LCD display that shows which mode it is in. Massage wise it is identical to the Brookstone version. The vibration and the kneeding is all the same. Overall this product is worth the money, but you have been warned about the bone crushing potential that it has.
Customer Review: Not satisfied at all
Leg Beautifician C-01 Deluxe Six Pairs Air Bags Leg, foot and Calf kneading and vibrating Massager - softer actions (Purchased on 12/05/2008)
I already asked for my money back on this item. I sent it to my friend as a Christmas present. She said that at first it hurt her legs and now it does not work at all. Instead of massaging it just vibrates.
I also complained to the merchant but did not hear anything back.
Please send her a return label and refund my money.

Don't drop the ball when the temperature drops. Use these easy tips to keep your pet warm and safe during the chilly winter months.

Don't forget to provide adequate shelter and snacks
Remember that Pets need adequate shelter from wind and rain when the temperatures drop. Older, chronically ill or debilitated Pets may have more difficulty during cold weather. While the best course of action is to leave your Pet inside during cold weather, if you must leave your Pet outdoors, increase his or her food intake. When Pets are exposed to cold weather, they require extra calories to stay warm.

Freezing temps call for a slumber party - Bring in the doggies!
Pets are safer indoors in freezing weather. Dogs need outside exercise but only for limited periods be attentive to body temperature and limit time outdoors, especially to prevent frostbite on ears and feet. If you suspect frostbite, seek veterinary attention.

An icy water bowl is no fun for anyone
Cold temperatures can freeze drinking water left outdoors. Your Pet can also damage his or her paws trying to break through icy surfaces. In freezing temperatures, you need to check the water frequently or purchase a heater for your Pet's water bowl.

Antifreeze, the attractive nuisance
Regular antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is attractive to Pets because it has a sweet taste. Even in very small quantities, the ingestion of antifreeze can be fatal. Licking antifreeze off the floor of the garage is enough to be dangerous. Check your car for coolant leaks and clean up spilled antifreeze immediately. Optimally, use antifreeze-coolant made with propylene glycol, which won't hurt Pets, wildlife or family members.

Check for chilly kitties before starting your engine
Cats may climb onto vehicle engines seeking warmth during cold weather. Severe, sometimes fatal injuries can result from being struck by a moving fan belt. Be sure to knock on or check under the hood before starting your vehicle and honk the horn to startle any Pets who may have sought shelter underneath your vehicle.

Pet-friendly de-icing is a must
The salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice may irritate the pads of your Pet's feet. Wipe the feet with a damp towel every time when coming in from outdoors even if you don't see salt on the walkways. Many pet stores sells a pet-friendly de-icing product that is safe for use around Pets or young children.

Indoor Pets may need some extra monitoring too
Some Pets, such as reptiles or tropical fish may be temperature-sensitive to cold air. Pay attention to room temperatures to ensure that these Pets don't get chilled. Also, bundle up your babies if they are cold. Remember, hot air rises so your pup may get chilly. Put a sweater on him, or give him an extra blankie for those cold nights.

There’s an array of situations and medical conditions that can cause a case of vomiting dogs, from eating a new and unfamiliar food, to speed-eating and ingesting non-food items. For owners of a dog who is vomiting, it's important to find out what is causing the vomiting, which can signal a serious, life-threatening problem such as dehydration or an intestinal obstruction. “Most cases of stomach upset involve a dog who ate something that he shouldn’t have, be it an unfamiliar food or a non-food item,” explained Dr. Michael Levine, DVM. Gastritis, a term describing the inflammation of the stomach lining, occurs when an unfamiliar food item or a non-food item is ingested. Other causes include excessive stomach acids/bile, viruses, and micro-organisms like salmonella or giardia.

Zoey had an agility lesson today. I was informed I need to run faster, sprint training was mentioned. Zoey seems very happy to lope along at the same pace I do. I was hoping she'd be a dog willing to drive far ahead of me, but that might not be the case. Ouch. I would love to able to run in the past, the pain has always stopped me. The acupuncture and resistance trainging may help, but I'm not sure it's enough. Is the pain that bad, or am I that wimpy? No answer right now.

All three dogs got a little training session in the basement. I got Abby to bite the disc twice. Tried to let her "win" though she did not bite hard, so it was tough to impart that winning feeling. We then went on to a little trick trainng. With Zac, worked a little on holding a dumbbell, which seemed pretty stressful for him, though it's only pure positive training, and some other Obedience stuff plus some tricks. He did not even catch sight of a disc. Zoey was wild enough for discs, so we played some transfering games, and then did some trick training, and a fair bit of tugging with some rope toys. I had two toys, so got her to transfer her attention.

I find myself, at 41, back in a college classroom for the first time in a couple of decades. The what for is an education degree. The how come is a long story about the divergent directions TV news and I were taking. Im still working on the why not?
My first time in college, I studied journalism, and was not all that engaged in the academics of it all. Rather, I was literally *engaged*, and then *un-engaged*, and then *engaged again*, and then married. Studying was not the priority.
I worked on the school paper, and won some contests, and had some flashes of brilliance here and there. But mostly, I frustrated my professors with my unapplied potential.  (yes, Hello, Dr. Bacon.)
But at 41, there is no time for the luxury of unapplied potential. I am obsessing over grades, striving for over-achievement, trying to prove I can do this.
This semester, I signed up for a childrens literature class with a professor who has been teaching it forever. The syllabus detailed every criteria. Expectations were clear. I was buckled in and ready to go.
But the professor fell ill. And in her place waltzed a silver-haired pixie in gypsy skirts who tossed out half the plans, played the Beatles as background music, told us we needed to to take notes in all the colors of the rainbow, and eschewed grading criteria in favor of embracing the creative process.
Out went the research paper. In came a read-aloud of a favorite childrens book with 25 percent of the grade on costuming and setting the stage, another 25 on including the audience.
I did not, I admit, see the point.
But she wanted us to embrace the process? Fine. I would embrace it and squeeze until its eyes bugged out.
I readied to read Armadillo Tattletale.
I dressed in a cowgirl outfit. I made glittery cowboy hats for my classmates and a headband with armadillo ears for the professor.
I told them about how authors used a device of repeating things three times in three different ways when they really want to emphasize something, and explained they were going to notice that every time the armadillo really got in trouble, the other animals gave him the three-pronged attack of the What For, the How Come, and the Why Not.
You chose a purple hat? Your group is going to yell What For?
Red Hat? How Come?
Orange? Why Not?
Everyone played along. We threw hissy fits and stomped our feet. The armadillo professor cried on cue and promised not to tell tales. I pulled out acting skills not seen since high school drama club.
By the time it was over, the process had not just been embraced, it needed a cigarette.
I felt, I admit, a little smug at my ability to pull it off. Still, not sure of the point. Still, wrestling with the what am I supposed to be learning here? question.
Then tonight, an answer.
A young woman in the class, one who has struggled with assignments as she juggles a full-time job and parenting a young child alongside her classwork, spoke up softly as we were discussing books we had found in the class.
Oh I bought that tall tale book about the armadillo, she said. I brought it up to school and told my co-teacher, I cant read it like the girl in my class did, but I am going to keep practicing.
I felt warmed and stung by her words all at once. Honored by the value she had found in the reading, humbled by the realization that I have spent the class searching for a what for, and a how come that is all about what I can come away with with. And in the process, I have totally missed the  suggestion to why not make it about what I can bring to the table.
Slow-learning armadillos have nothing on me.
But I do know this. When we finish that class this week, I will tell that girl she is going to be a great teacher. Ill thank her for teaching me something. And why not? Perhaps I will even hug the Beatles-playing professor that I thought was a little crazy.

I want a very healthy pet food that doesnt taste terrible. Dont try tasting it ha ha but

Some good quality brands are Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Innova, Evo, California Natural, Eagle Pack and Merrick to name a few. Look for canned/wet food for the main source of diet, contains moisture need to keep cats hydrated. Also if you are looking at labels, foods that use cheap products will list meat/poultry by-products, any type of corn(corn meal, gluten) and brewers rice as well as wheat gluten are poor quality ingredients. By-products are necks, feet, intestines and diseased, disabled animals.
Try the few Ive mentioned up top, they are very good quality.
