Since I am a horrible writer you will all have to bear with me. I have decided to blog about my journey through infertility and my upcoming In Vitro Fertilization cycle. I guess I should start with my story.
Kyle and I decided to start having kids in December of 2007 after many years of waiting for the right time. Kyle had just graduated from RPI and was going to be getting out of the military in August 2008 and we were hoping to be moving back to Nebraska soon after that. I knew that it would take us a few months to get pregnant but I had no idea what was about to happen over the next 11 months.
To prepare I bought a fertility monitor, read about 15 books on how to get pregnant, spent a ton of money on OPK's, pregnancy tests, magic fertility supplements/vitamins and basically became obsessed with understanding what in the world happens when someone is trying to conceive. I was shocked at how little I knew about my body and I was also shocked that after 5.5 years of being married that there wasn't a slip up. You know those oops babies you hear of? Yeah that was not us!
After 3 months of tracking ovulation and taking my temperature ever freaking morning at 5am I was starting to wonder if something was wrong with me. I decided to book an appointment with an OBGYN but I knew that I had to get creative at my appointment. They usually won't listen to people unless you have been trying for more than a year. So I decided to tell a little white lie so I could get her to listen to me. During my appointment I explained what I thought was wrong and wanted her to do more blood work on me. She basically talked down to me like I had no idea what I was talking about and dismissed all of the concerns that I expressed to her. She was the worst doctor ever. I did manage to get blood work out of her though so I just need to wait for those results.
About a week later I got the call from the OBGYN and she said everything was normal! I was just shocked and I didn't understand how that could be. My gut was telling me that there was something wrong but I couldn't get anybody to listen to me. That is when I called a fantastic OBGYN in Nebraska (a family friend we will call him Dr. M.). Dr. M told me to just fax over everything I had and he would take a look. He called me at home that very same night in May of 2008 and told me that I had PCOS. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I was crushed. I had no idea what to do next, but he was able to talk me through my options and he let me know that this was not the end of the world. He gave me a referral to Dr. Maud, a fertility specialist in Omaha, and also gave me 3 rounds of Clomid and a prescription for Metformin.
I wanted to try the 3 rounds of Clomid and Metformin before I called Maud but I gave in and called for an appointment hoping to get in right away. This was in August but of course her first available appointment was February 16th, 2009!!!!!!!!! I was blown away. I didn't want to wait that long, I wanted things to happen right now! The receptionist at the clinic did say that I could schedule an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner for October 8th and if I ended up needing to see Maud then we could go that route. Of course I took that appointment!
I was on my last round of Clomid and on Cycle Day 14 when I walked in to Maud's office. They called my name and I was so nervous to go through all of this. She sat me down and said you will be meeting with Maud today instead of the NP!!!! I was shocked and so overwhelmed with joy. I gave the nurse all of my information and history and then Maud walked into the room. She was such a fast talker and I was just trying to comprehend everything she was telling me. The next thing I know she is asking me if I have ever had an ultrasound to check follicle size and walking me into the U/S room!! She said that I had 2 large follicles and asked if I was okay with doing an IUI. Of course I was okay with that!! I was just hoping Kyle was on board since he wasn't able to go to my appointment!! LOL! She gave me instructions on how to do a trigger shot, then drew my blood and sent me on my way. They told me to give myself a trigger shot that night at 10pm and to come in for the IUI on Oct. 10th at 8:45am.
Fast forward a few weeks and I am now devastated that I am not pregnant. I thought for sure this was going to work and I would be pregnant before I knew it but of course nothing is that easy. My next step was to go through an HSG to make sure my uterus looked good as well as check my fallopian tubes for any blockages.
On November 3rd, 2008 I was laying on the exam table in Radiology when I received the worst news of my life. My tubes are COMPLETELY blocked and there is no chance for me to conceive naturally. I was just devastated and didn't know what to think. How can I have gone through all of this only to find out that none of it was going to work no matter what I did. My heart was broken but this is where my IVF journey began.
In March 2009, I will start my injections and hopefully have a successful first IVF!!!!!.

The article North And South (DVD) Review is about movies, it has been released by Britt Gillette.Based on the best-selling novels by John Jakes, North And South premiered as a highly celebrated and critically acclaimed television series in 1985. In the spirit of Gone With The Wind, the novels cover 19th Century America before, during, and after the Civil War. As with the Margaret Mitchell classic, Jakes creates a larger-than-life cast of characters to tell his story of struggle between a Union of States divided on the issues of human bondage and states rights, loyalty to ones nation and loyalty to the state in which one was born, along with innumerable interpersonal conflicts lost in the sands of time
To tell his story, Jakes uses two families, the Hazard family of Pennsylvania and the Main family of South Carolina.Boasting a star-studded cast, Notrh And South is over 1000 minutes of riveting drama. Multiple discs cover the Civil War era with breathtaking cinematography, realistic settings, and the ever-increasing cauldron of conflict between North and South. You wont want to miss this truly amazing series. The North And South DVD covers all three books from the popular series, each a multi-disc set
Below is a less than comprehensive summary of each book.
(Be Warned that the summaries below contain some plot spoilers)BOOK ONE North South (561 minutes)Book One of the North And South DVD covers the period piror the Civil War (1844-1860). Eighteen-year-old Orry Main (Patrick Swayze) prepares to leave his South Carolina plantation en route to West Point when he encounters an overturned carriage while leaving town. Aiding the passengers, Orry is introduced to the lovely Madeline Fabray (Lesley-Anne Down) to whom he provides a ride, giving her safe passage to the LaMotte plantation where her father and his friend Justin LaMotte (David Carradine) are waiting. Madeline and Orry agree to write each other while hes away at West Point. When Orry travels to New York, he meets up with a group of unsavory characters who try to rob him, but George Hazard (James Read) comes to his aid, and the two manage to fend off the criminals. George is on his way to West Point as well, and the two men stirke up a friendship that continues through the duration of their schooling. While at West Point, they collude with others to rid the campus of menacing upperclassman Elkanah Bent (Philip Casnoff). The vindictive cadet vows revenge, and he gets it when George and Orry are placed under his command at a battle during the Mexcian War. Bent sends the two men and their comrades into certain death, only to have his plan foiled by a Mexican retreat. While fighting in Mexico, George meets his future wife Constance Flynn (Wendy Kilbourne). Meanwhile, Orry and Madeline experience a personal hell when Madelines father hides Orrys letters from West Point. Thinking that Orry has forgotten about her, Madeilne agrees to marry Justin LaMotte, who treats her horribly. With Orry and Madeline continuing their love affair in secret, George and Orry continue their friendship. The etnire Main family, including Orrys sisters Ashton (Terri Garber) and Brett (Genie Francis) as well as Main cousin Charles (Lewis Smith), travel to Pennsylvania as guests of the Hazard family. While in the North, the Mains are confronted by Georges abolitionist sister Virgilia (Kirstie Alley) and the differences between the North and South dominate the discussion, but George and Orrys friendship continues unabated as they decide not to discuss such matters. When the Mains return the favor and invite the Hazards to South Carolina, Virgiila creates a ruckus by aiding in the escape of Grady, a neighbors slave. Later, she marries Grady, and the two join John Brown and his fredeom fighters. When Grday is killed, Virgilia enlists the help of Congressmen Sam Greene.Meanwhile, Orry and George start a business partnership by opening a cotton mill in South Carolina. As the secessionist movement gains ground, the two continue to take comfort in the strength of their brotherly bond BOOK TWO Love War (570 minutes)Book Two of the North And South DVD covers the beginnings of the Civil War and the wars cocnlusion (1860-1865). Despite the growing talk of Southern secession, George and Orry continue to run thier cotton mill and remain friends. George and Constance even operate an illegal stop along the Underground Railroad. But when Abraham Linclon is elected president, the Southern states secede, and eventually war breaks out between the two nations. Orrys sister Brett is in love with Georges brother Billy Hazard (John Stockwell) who is himself a West Piont graduate stationed in Fort Sumter. The war drives Blily far away from his new bride Brett, while Ashton sees the war as an opportunity to profit. Using her husband James Huntoon (Jim Metzler) to climb the ranks of the political circuit, Ahston decides that James is not the hottest guy to serve her interests. She begins a relationship with Elkanah Bent, who is using the war for personal profit by smuggling luxury goods past the Union naval blockade.Meanwhile, the war tears apart both North and South. George works as an aide to Lincoln, while Orry works in a simliar capacity for Jefferson Davis. Druing the course of the war, Charles meets a Virginia woman and falls in love with her. At wars end, she bears his child, but dies shortly thereafter. In addition, Justins death finally gives Orry and Madeline the opportunity to marry. As the war waegs on, it takes its toll on the two families. But despite the obstacles, they endure to the end. At the wars conclusion, George and Orry are reunited, and the two men vow to work together to rebuild a brkoen nation.BOOK THREE Heaven Hell (261 minutes)Book Three of the North And South DVD originally aired in 1994, several years after the first two books aired. With Patrick Swayze right now an estalbished star, the character of Orry Main is written out of the television screenplay for the final book. Several other cast members reappear, but the writing deviates substantially from John Jakess original novel, creating a plot which fails to make sense. Seeing as how Elkanah Bent died in the previous book, its somewhat ludicrous to have him reappear in book three. In addition, the dialogue is often sitff and awkward, the plot uninteresting, and the entire book is not worth viewing. Stick with watching the first two books on DVD.CONCLUSIONDespite the failure of Book Three to arouse any interest whatsoever, the North And South DVD is more than worth the price for Books One and Two. This is a throoughly entertaining mini-series reminiscent of a prime time soap opera, one with a historical perspective. With a cast of characters likely to sprak viewer fondness, compelling subplots, and fascinating costumes and set design, North And South is an epic of unrivaled quality. Trust me, you wont be disappointed with the North And South DVD, despite the deficiencies of Book Three About the AuthorBritt Gillette is author of The DVD Report, a blog where you can find more reveiws like this one of the North And South (DVD).

We have picked June 1st as our target date to move up to Seattle. So that gives us three monthes to wrap things up with the house and stuff. If we are ready sooner we will go sooner or if we are not ready then we can push it back but June 1st is our goal. (yay)
Chris had an interview this week up in Seattle and they are interested in him but want him to work on some stuff and come back. Apparently this is not uncommon with them, to have you go through the process a few times before they hire you. I think it is good that they have an interest and want to keep talking to him. They are a sucessful company and I guess you get there by being picky. It is nice they were very constructive with him and kept the door open.
I am kind of glad it worked out this way. There are so many opportunities in front of him and us that I am glad that we have some more time to explore those before he commits to a job. I think this company would be a great fit for him and I am glad they are interested in him but I am also glad that he has some time to work on his other projects, we can give ourselves some time to wrap things up. And we are not locked into a moving date at this point. Who knows if he had gotten the job how soon they would have wanted us to move up there. So all in all I am glad that it worked out this way.
